Must Magazines be Dumbed Down to the Level of the Limbaugh Listener?

by James Nimmo     Page 1 of 1 page(s)

Tell A Friend

(OKLAHOMA CITY) In defense of the recent Obama cover in the New Yorker magazine I will say there is nothing elite, effete, or big city about its contents.

Yes, the front pages, in the very small type, cover the New York activities scene of arts, entertainment, movies, shows, etc.

If anyone would read the articles themselves, in the big type, they would find many newsworthy articles that cover a wide range of human interests.

For just one very relevant example, I would like to remind everyone that Seymour Hersh has scooped the main stream media with several stories in the New Yorker about the Bu$h Junta's use of the illegal Iraq War for its political gain.

It has also covered global warming, health issues, and has a weekly profile of a mover and shaker in nearly every human endeavor from the most blue-collar to the most urbane.

So because Limbaugh listeners, who may or may not be able to read and need to have their opinions recited to them by rote and don't understand satire or camp, are magazines supposed to dumb down their content to the level of the average Limbaugh automaton?

This is EXACTLY what the right-wing would want us to do.

People who think the New Yorker cover is an actual "news item" probably believe the supermarket tabloids are papers of record and won't be voting for any Democrat on any ballot anywhere.

Some of us are being sacred witless and s***less by the counter-intelligence tactics of the right-wing.

I think we need to leave behind the right-wing paranoia and get on with electing Democrats all across the country.

right wing

I hate to break it to you but most Democratic party politicians are right wingers like the Republicans. Any candidate that supports big business, illegal wars, and the police state is a right winger.

How true that is. "Dumbing" is the wrong word. Cannot speak.

I would suggest Green Party members to be elected to break the strangle hold of the duopoly that are more together than separate. Infiltrated by the Dominionists unlike the Green Party.

To be dumb means someone who can't talk. Def and dumb. Though it was later shown they could talk but didn't know how to. How about the deliteracization of America? Lowering of the literacy rate. But then the USA isn't known for its general mental proficiency anyway. Anti-intellectualism is alive and well. Just small pockets of intellectual prowess here and there.
