On the campus of Georgetown University, Appalachia residents, retired coal miners and supporters have come together for the past couple of days to strategize and further develop plans for an action that will take place in Washington, D.C. on Monday, September 27th. Those present have also taken the time to become further educated on energy, environmental and economic issues related to mountaintop removal coal mining and tactics that can be used to successfully fight King Coal.

Hundreds of activists were in a room Saturday night on September 25th and heard musicians perform and Appalachia citizens speak out against mountaintop removal coal mining and the coal industry itself.

Here is music from Michael & Carrie Kline (if you enjoy consider supporting these musicians by buying their CD of folk music):

Boo & Elena of the Demolition String Band from New York performed a Woody Guthrie song and a classic folk song, "I'll Fly Away." (*For more music, click here.)

Singer-songwriter Bryan Cahall performed several folk ballads. Here he is performing a song called, "Praise Be to the Ragtime Band." I'll let him deliver the introduction.

Check back periodically throughout the day for more videos of performances and speakers from last night's event in D.C.
