Modern Sex
(or the Sound of One Hand)
In spite
of all the talk about sex,
meant to titillate us
into a distracted frenzy,
actual enjoyment
of the act is not allowed.
In all the joyless sex acts,
e.g. hooking up,
no one actually touches
anyone only sex organs.
And since the self lives
much deeper than
the surface of a set
of throbbing genitals,
we are thus
ALONE,
fearful and supremely
self-absorbed,
even when we are inside
each other's bodies,
since mere release is what we seek
rather than intimate connection,
which would interfere
with the alienated self-gratification
so carefully cultivated by advertising
to fatten capitalism's bottom line.
