UN humanitarian convoy truck destroyed in Aleppo, Syria

Could it be military "incidents" in Syria since late August are the precursors for a wider war between the US and Russia?

One would never know it from the presidential "debate" charade last night at Hofstra University on Long Island between the "Hillerator", Hillary Clinton and the "Donald" Trump.

Yet several "incidents" have occurred in Syria since late August-never mentioned much less discussed in last night's "debate"-that may very well be ominous signs the Syrian conflict could explode into a direct conflict between Russia and the US.

Yes there's been diplomacy-even signed agreements for a cease fire plan in Syria-between Secretary of state John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov but these agreements were broken by Islamic jihadist mercenaries almost before the ink was dry.

Let's remember Turkey's President Recip Erdogan sent his troops along with tanks and US airpower invading Syria on August 24-under the pretext to fight the "terrorists" and capturing the northern Syrian border town of Jarabulus. The real intent was to establish a "safe zone" in northern Syria to train and equip jihadist mercenaries to bring eventual regime change in Syria and the removal of Syrian President Bashar Assad. He called it an invasion of sovereign country and under the Geneva Convention that's the supreme act of aggression.

Meanwhile the Syrian Arab Army coordinating with Russian air power is engaged in intense fighting against Islamic jihadist mercenaries in eastern Aleppo mounting an offensive intent on driving them completely from the city.

As this offensive was happening US fighter jets killed 60 elite Syrian Army troops and wounding over a 100 at an army base near Deir Azzor. When Assad accused the US the attack was deliberate the US called it an "accident".

Two days later a UN humanitarian convoy was besieged outside of Aleppo. The attack was condemned by Secretary Kerry as being an air assault by Russian and Syrian planes. Yet both Russia and Syria rejected the claims and subsequent pictures of the burned out convoy trucks substantiated their account that jihadist mercenaries operating in the area initiated the attack.

Now there's been a report by the Iranian FARS News [1] agency-unsubstantiated by any other source except Sputnik Arabic-that Russian missiles fired from a ship in the Mediterranean off the coast of Syria destroyed a Field "operation room" killing some 30 US, Israeli, British, Turkish, Saudi, Qatari intelligence personnel. This in apparent retaliation for these personnel ordering the US air strike killing the 60 elite Syrian army troops at the Deir Azzor army base.

If in fact the Russian missile strike occurred-both the Russian's and the US are mum-could this mean Russia in Syria will not stand idly by while its Syrian allies are slaughtered by US strikes without it retaliating with a pin point proportional strike of its own?

What any US response to the alleged Russian missile strike will be...is unknown for the moment.

But what the Russian missile strike did do-again if it did occur-was announce to the US an attack against its Syrian allies will not go unpunished.

Whether these US air attacks and retaliatory strikes by Russia will escalate to a direct confrontation is not assured at this point.

Thus far the "safe zone" carved out by the Turks in northern Syria has not been declared a "no fly zone". There's been no reports-as far as I can tell-Russian or Syrian air forces have penetrated this "safe zone".
