By now we have all heard the infamous vitriolic "anti-American" statements made by Republican Representative Michele Bachmann over the weekend and her call for a 21st century witch hunt into the anti-American views she believes are held by some in Congress. What I found fascinating about this story is just how obvious the reporting on it was led by New Media sites, Progressive sites, and bloggers. The local mainstream media outlets here in Minnesota almost begrudgingly started covering the story the next day, not because they wanted to but because they had to or look even more foolish in the eyes of the national media. Being on the ground here, it was something to behold and makes me feel like millions of Americans are awakening from their slumbers.
Daliy KOS was on it immediately and with their partnership with Act Blue helped raised well over a $100,000 for Michele Bachmann's opponent Elywn Tinklenberg within hours of her interview. After receiving over $800,000 in campaign contributions in less than 72 hrs, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has added Tinklenberg to its Red to Blue program, a list of candidates deemed capable of beating a Republican incumbent. This race wasn't even on the national radar until this weekend.
