McCain Owes America an Apology: John Lewis Was Right

John McCain spent months fanning the fear-filled fires of folks scared of terrorists, socialists, and anti-Americanism in his campaign for President.  On election night he made a fine concession speech and walked away==but the fires are still burning.  John McCain apparently thought it was OK to turn fears on high for as long as possible to help his quest for the presidency.  But he cannot now just expect the flames to turn off.  He owes America an apology for running a terribly fear-mongering, knowingly false and divisive campaign.

Just outside of New Orleans, a newly discovered chapter of the Ku Klux Klan murdered one of their newest recruits in the past few days.  The woman who was murdered was a novice who took a bus down from Oklahoma after the election for the specific purpose of joining the Klan.  She was shot and her body was burned after a disagreement with the Klan leader.  Coincidence?

Nationwide, gun sales are up.  People in Houston are buying, according to the Los Angeles Times, assault rifles and high capacity magazines of ammunition.   Denver, according to the New York Times, set a one day record for people seeking weapons.  Coincidence?

In the most expensive exclusive private school in New Orleans, a classroom of 12 year olds was asked by their teacher what their reactions were to the election.   In front of one African American classmate, one white student said, "Twelve black people can't run a Burger King, how do you expect one black man to run the country?"-  What made that student and his family think that was acceptable speech?  Does the fact that McCain got 86% of the white vote in Louisiana give a hint?  Coincidence?

The New York Times reported on the people in small town Alabama, where the election is making whites fear that blacks will now be more "aggressive."

John McCain professed to be deeply offended by Congressman John Lewis' warning that the campaign of McCain and Palin was stoking fires that could not be put out.  They spent months pounding away at supposed connections to terrorism that they knew were bogus.  They spent months screaming that socialism was on the advance if they lost.  Their campaign gave comfort and support to their fellow travelers of the hard right to scare and scare and scare people.  And guess what, people are scared.  And scared people do scary things.

Congressman Lewis warned them in October.  "As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all. They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy. We can do better. The American people deserve better."

Senator McCain was "offended,"- seriously offended by Rep Lewis' comments.  "Congressman John Lewis' comments represent a character attack against Governor Sarah Palin and me that is shocking and beyond the pale. The notion that legitimate criticism of Senator Obama's record and positions could be compared to Governor George Wallace, his segregationist policies and the violence he provoked is unacceptable and has no place in this campaign."-

Maybe this is all just a coincidence since the election.  Coincidence?  I think not.  John McCain owes this country a real and full apology for fanning the fires of fear.  And he also owes John Lewis an apology.

Sorry for racism?

I find it really hard to be sorry about racists killing each other.   Put every one of them in a pit with a knife and shoot the winner.  It's not that I waste effort hating them, it's just that they use up valuable air.

Please McCain, help us mere mortals

Being as how John McCain possesses esoteric, highly specialized know-how about the way to find and capture bin Laden, (because he repeatedly claimed as such, making it a plank in his platform), I have to wonder if he will selflessly share this valuable methodology with the people and intitutions that are ostensibly pursuing this lofty goal, even though McCain wasn't awarded the US presidency.

What I find most alarming, is that nine out of every twenty Americans voted for McCain/Palin - far from a landslide - and certainly not a resounding defeat. The only thing that horrified me more than McCain's access to the nucler launch codes as Commander in Chief, was the possibility of Sarah Palin's access to them one day.

McCain Apologize? - I doubt it

I agree that he owes Obama and Lewis an apology, but he's probably feeling so righteous because he drew the line at using Rev Wright that he won't feel like he owes anything to anybody.  btw, he owes all Muslims an apology too, for the remark he made to the woman who was "afraid" of Obama because she thought he was a Muslim.  Telling her that Obama wasn't a Muslim, that he was a good man, was an insult to Islam.  If it matters, I'm not a Muslim, I'm an agnostic.

McCain and Palin owe Obama, the people and world

What was so puzzling about the whole campaign waged by "that one" and the "other one" is the fact that the media was so lily- livered about the foul deeds they pulled. If just one of the MSM had openly said what we all thought - that McCAin and Palin behaved like the louts they are. They should have been not just censured but arrested for inciting violence.

Even today we read that the Secret Service has to be very vigilent about the safety of the First Family that will be in the WHite House. If there is a danger to them, it belongs on McCain's head and on the Wicked Witch of the North's head, too.

There is no excuse for McCain's behavior. He has been around forever and should know better. She, on the other hand, lives in a bubble up in Alaska and while she is not be excused  let's hope we never hear from her again. That can be achieved very easily. The only thing that has to happen is for the media to completely ignore her and never write or say another word about her. PLease listen, media workers, and pay heed. I hope this marks the end of a very nasty period in our history and that we can look forward to the next four or eight years with eager anticipation with the Obamas in the White House.

McCain on Leno

"He owes America an apology for running a terribly fear-mongering, knowingly false and divisive campaign."

I agree, however, I watched Ol' McBlinky on Leno the other night and the Mac seems to think he fought a respectful, good campaign.

When asked at what point did he feel he was up against an historical movement that was bigger than the both of them (he and Obama), he quickly said, "I never thought that... I'm a fighter...I knew I had a head wind...I could read the polls...they tried to keep them from me... heh heh...'Senator, you don't want to read that'..heh heh...No, I knew we had a real head wind."

Seems self-delusive to me.

As for the increase in gun sales - here in PA the local paper reported that the locals (who apparently do cling to their guns) are coming out in droves buying up guns for fear of a ban on semi automatic assault rifles:

"Area gun enthusiasts react to Obama's victory - Fearing a ban, 'people are panic-buying' Firearms retailers groups says demand hasn't been this high since early 90's."  http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-ag_quote-a.6667003nov12,0,5037096.story

They owe nobody an apology

I don't even put these little tidbits together in the "coinicidence" category. Trying to tie these things together is about as pathetic as it gets. By the way: Gun sales are apparently up because they are afraid that Barack Obama and the Dem Congress will be restricting Second Amendment rights.  Irrational fears? Maybe. But there is no violent uprising in the making.

Only Time Will Tell

No one knows what an Obama presidency will bring. Obama promised socialist programs even though he might not have said “I’m a Socialist or Marxist”. As for terror, even your Biden (Remember your VP elect?) has said he believes terrorists will test Obama if he is elected. America is afraid of Obama because no one really knows what this guy is going to do.

Yea, great you elected a guy because he was black. Did you even listen to what he said or were you so bedazzled by his ability to talk that you did not listen?

Yes but....

We also owe him thanks for running such a stupid campaign that Obama won handily.  If he had let Rove run his campaign things may have turned out different.

Apology...

If there's one thing I've learned about Republicans, its that they don't take responsibility for their mistakes, and will NEVER EVER APOLOGIZE!   We will be waiting forever for an apology.  Palin is still campaigning and slamming Obama...these people JUST DON'T GET IT!  A large percentage of the Republican base is actually looking for Palin to run in 2012 probably because she is proficient in talking CRAP and making it smell like HOMEMADE PIE.  It is difficult for the truth to prevail when the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys and Sarah Palins, or as I like to call them, the insane, are capable of convincing a large majority of the population that what they say is true and factual.  When our founding fathers said "Freedom of Speech" I don't think they meant Freedom to Lie and Manipulate the Truth and Falsely Accuse Other who you disagree with.  I am so happy that Obama won, but I have a feeling the Palins of this country won't let us enjoy the next eight years....and boy do we need the break!

Let God Forgive McCain/Palin I don't

IF there is a God and if he/she is so inclined, then let these two Buffoon Republicans see his/her mercy. We are not obliged to forgive them as if they did not know what they were doing..They Did! Divides as we are we owe that great accomplishment to the NeoCons and Righties who favor a divide and conquer philosophy over a united we stand and together we can of the Hope filled Obama followers. I don't like being called naive because I still believe in the Spirit of Christmas, the Goodness of People and the Possibility for Change. Having reached the ripe age of 70 and being educated and blessed with great family and friends surrounding me. I am indeed Blessed and I am Hopeful for a new era of Change, an era from which we have an opportunity, no, a responsibility to positively affect the conditions of all of our brothers and sisters. McCain and Palin do owe an explanation to the voters, as to the why they fed the flames of hate and bigotry and this should be done sooner rather than later. It would be easy for them to explain that current politics, which use fear and distortions or outright lies, are a desperate attempt to grab power, nothing more, nothing less.

They fed nothing

"...fed the flames of hate and bigotry..."

They did no such thing. For the millionth time, pointing out his previous relationship with a member of the Weather Underground has no racial element to it whatsoever. None.

Do you think I'm going to blame Barack Obama for those "Sarah Palin is a c***" t-shirts? Thta's how stupid this argument is, folks.
