Some are calling it Obama punting, but I say that the protesters who were arrested at the White House gates and elsewhere, Bill McKibben, 350.org and the 10,000 plus protesters who circled the Whitehouse this past weekend flat out WON!!.

President Obama has postponed a decision on the pipeline until 2013, after the next election.

There's a good chance that things will change then. As an incumbent, Obama will be accountable to those who elected him-- the corporate donors. Or if Obama loses, and a Republican is in the White House, the question will only be how much corporate welfare will be given to expedite the construction of the pipeline.

But for now, activists and protesters have something to be proud about. They stopped the pipeline for some time.

Protest and activism are slow processes. They are incremental, with stops and starts, making little steps of progress. Today, a significant step was made and protests and people who engaged in civil disobedience helped make that step.

A few declarations.
-While I'm registered as a Democrat, I consider myself to be a dynamic critic of the Democratic party, just as, well, not quite as much, but almost as much as I am a critic of republicans.
