Johnstown, PA McCain-Palin rally, view it and weep for America

View this YouTube video Next, understand a truth: this is typical, not atypical, behavior, intellect (and I use that term quite against its definition), and attitudes. Visit YouTube.com, then in the search insert McCain-Palin rallies.

YES! This is typical, it is what typifies those who back Senator John McCain and Sarah Palin.  And NO, you may not suggest those who support Senator Obama and Senator Joe Biden comport themselves in any similar fashion.  You cannot because you have zero evidence to that sort of assertion.

As to all who support McCain and Palin, and to all who have not disowned those who support them, I repeat the following, hopefully for the last time, as it so sickens me to ruminate on the subject.

They are NOT Christians.  I don't care what they might claim, or how loudly, or how frequently they pray or go to church, they are NOT Christians.  To any who would try to suggest otherwise, I ask where in the New Testament can I locate the witnessed behaviors and attitudes that reconcile with even a part of one sentence in that compendium?

They are NOT Americans.  Being born or naturalized here makes of one a citizen of the United States; not the same as being an American.  An American believes to the core of his or her soul the rights enshrined in the Constitution of the United States are sacred writ.  Additionally, serving in the United States military, or a veteran of service in it do not by any necessity make one an American.  I served in the infantry, from June 22, 1964 through June 21, 1967, and I acquainted several who were anything but.  Indeed, they are the very antithesis of what being an American means.

What they are is IGNORANT!  Locate just one verifiable fact in their rantings; just one.  They are STUPID!  They are because they have elected to be and remain ignorant.  Yes, that makes them STUPID.

The very first thing I want to know about anyone with whom I might be dealing is where he or she stands vis-à-vis the candidates.  While it is true, everyone has a right to vote secretly for whomever he or she chooses, and that everyone has a right to decline to answer any question that is put to them, what is equally true is that you and I have a right to know the sort of folk with whom we associate.  As you are who you hang with, you are fully entitled to refuse to be stained by the association.

Lastly, I don't care whether it is your spouse or one of your parents or children or siblings or neighbors or other associates, unless YOU have disowned them, disavowed your relationship with them, then you are as much the foul of the earth and heavens as are they, and neither would I knowingly choose to retain an association with you.  Can anything be any more clear?

This is the "banality of evil"

And unless it is quashed, it is a movement that could easily destroy whatever is left of our Democracy.   These are the kinds of people who  carried out the orders of the Nazi party during World War II.  These are the kinds of people who see the world in black and white and believe that they are always on the side of "right." The end justifies the means and these people would gladly put the screws to anyone that disagrees with them.

These types don't love Democracy nor do they subscribe to the most basic tenants of our Constitution; that all men are created equal. The ugliness on display is brazenly practiced when they are in groups, but they have no such courage when they stand alone.

The rest of us have to continually stand up to these people, all over this country, and let them know that they are in the minority. We have to make sure that they don't get another powerful leader again for as long as we have breath in our bodies. We can't drown them out, we can't deny them their right to speech, but we can vigilantly watch for signs that they are banding together to oppress us all and put a stop to it when we see it happening.

Eugene Debs said, "While there is a lower class I am in it; while there is a criminal element I am of it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free”

And Thomas Paine said, "He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."

These are words for us all to live by in these trying times.
