Additional power plants
The pre revolution government of Iran made a contract with the French to build a nuclear power plant in city of Bushehr in Iran, about fifty years ago. The 1979 revolution caused the project to stop. That was followed with eight years of delay because of Iran-Iraq war. Since then, there has been other contracts with other countries to finish the project as the French opt out of the contract.
The latest contractor were the Russians. Iranian government is announcing that the power plant was finished much earlier and that the plant has saved six billion dollars for Iran by producing 52 billion kilowatts of electricity.
During last several summers there has been shortages of electricity in the state Khuzestan where the power plant is located.
Since the beginning of the project, it was a public knowledge that the real motive for building the plant was a part of a bigger project which was Iran's ambitions for nuclear weapons. However, at the beginning of the project The Shah of Iran had received the approval from the U.S presidents Nixon and Carter to build the bomb. Ironically, the western countries and Israel were competing to get the lucrative contract.
Currently, Iran is forbidden from attempts to build a nuclear device because Iran is a signatory to nuclear nonproliferation treaty, and its government has publicly announced its desire to exterminate Israel.
It is well known that Iran has one of the top five reservoirs of oil and world's top three reservoirs of natural gas. Any money spent on nuclear power plants is a waist.
In today's edition an Iranian news network which is connected to Iranian government, announced the report of the Iranian nuclear chief for their intention to spend another $40 billion to build additional plants. That piece of news with all of its inaccurate numbers are as follows:
"So far, we have saved 80 million barrels of oil and injected nearly 52 billion kilowatts of electricity into the national grid, which is equivalent to about $6 billion in savings, which means that in this short period of time, it has been able to return twice the money spent on it," Mohammad Eslami explained.
The Iranian nuclear chief said Tehran plans to invest about $40 billion in nuclear power plants development over the next two decades.
"We believe that nuclear power plants mean sustainable electricity, which reduces the production of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. That is one of the competitive advantages of investment in this field, which has been well-received, and countries are moving towards it. I hope we can overcome this delay of several years and speed up projects," Eslami added. He asked Iranian and foreign investors to participate in Iranian nuclear energy projects.
The Bushehr plant is Iran's first nuclear power station. It was connected to the national electricity grid in 2011. Iran has planned to build several more atomic power stations to meet its rapidly increasing power needs
