In baseball the goal is to go home. George nailed it.

What follows below are my personal truths and beliefs, all subject to change, as am I. No matter what I’ve learned or believe I know up to this point, I am more curious about what I haven’t or don’t. I offer these random and not so random observations not to convince anyone of anything. I simply impart. I try to appreciate as much as possible. And, I like to write.

I do not see life as something to be controlled. There is no grail. There are only choices. Not choosing is one. There are no solutions, only alternatives. There is no way. There are many. There are personal truths, physical plane (or earthbound) truths and universal truths. I know only what I know. I don’t always know what to do.

Therefore, in no particular order:

Our Constitution is an ambulatory document. It floats. It means only what the sitting justices say it means, no more, no less. Life can be unfair. Miracles are everywhere. We own nothing. We have everything.

I’ve felt the joy of music as part of my soul since I was 6. Still do. I am an atheist who reads the bible. I believe that Jesus was a man. A most amazing man. I was 11 years and 362 days old the morning JFK was assassinated. I researched what happened off and on until they sealed the investigative records for 50 years in ’78. It’s frustrates me to this day.

I believe the game of baseball is a reflection of our culture and personality. There is however one oddity in my theory. That we are obsessed with time and its limitations, I find it curious that the game of baseball has no clock. My theories are exactly that. My English lit teacher in high school, Ms. Wolfe, told me she “absolutely loved” reading my essays. I barely passed. My cousin came back from Nam in ‘70. Sorry to report he is still haunted.

Willie James Fulton is the best rhythm guitar player in the world. We played together for 7 years. He taught me that the space between the notes is the place where the groove lives. My step dad yelled too much. Mother Teresa rocked 24/7. The Black Crowes used to.

To this day, my wife likes how I love her. My country and our world is changing in ways that I never imagined. It’s gotten me very concerned. My mom is slowing down physically and slower to accept it. My wife’s nine year old thoroughbred Ebony likes the sprinklers on. All illegal immigrants are human. Some humans, with good intentions miss that point.

Walls separate. Bridges connect. I vote the latter. McEnroe vs. Borg had no loser. Rich politicians are commonplace. Honorable politicians are rare. Smoking Camel non filters while sipping a triple espresso is best enjoyed when done infrequently.

In ’69, my good friend Father Miles O’Brian Riley told me he believed to his soul Jesus is the Son of God and our lord. Still does. We remain best of friends. ”Mash” was and is still, a great show.

I don’t know who pulled off 9/11. I know who didn’t. Most people benefit not from the backrub itself, but from being touched. Patrick Henry walked the walk. We are more similar than different. Humor is the oil of the soul.

We need mother nature. She does not need us. Listening is not the same as hearing. Believing, not the same as knowing. A Budweiser is not a Heineken. My son says children choose their parents. I think a lot about that one.

The female body can be altered by its owner. It cannot be improved. All children deserve love in abundance. Stevie Wonder sees more than most. People who take baths as opposed to those who shower, probably sleep better. Nothing belongs to us. We are borrowing everything. We can leave behind two things. Children and art.

A good way to get attention is to get sick. A good way to stay healthy is to stay attentive. Everyone born dies. Not everyone born lives.

“In baseball the goal is to go home”……George Carlin.

For me, that says it.
