For OpEdNews: winston - Writer What happens to a person that makes him want to listen to this hatred all day long and what is he capable of? During the campaign, Palin called Obama a Muslim, anti-American, Socialist and her crowds were consumed by hatred of the Democrats. Obama was elected and one of his main campaign pledges--the “change we can believe in”, was a variant of public option, universal, single-payer, health care which the Democrats are trying to enact. Palin immediately resorted to hypocrisy and attacked Obama's “death panels”. Charles Grassley, the ranking minority member on the Senate Finance Committee--who should know better, cynically stated the Democrats would “pull the plug on Grandma".
That sort of language increases the possibility of getting the lunatic subset of people, who are already in the right-wing extremist set, riled up so much that violence follows.
The article “Dan Savage: Bachmann and Beck actively trying to get Obama killed” at
http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/09/02/bachmann-trying-to-get-obama-killed/
describes how (R-MN) Rep. Michele Bachmann's latest emotionally ill act was discussed by Author and columnist Dan Savage and TV Commentator Keith Olbermann, and states “Bachmann told a cheering audience on Monday that to stop health care reform, “What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't pass.”
How was this religious extremist nut elected? This seems to me to be the proverbial “cry for help”. I'm surprised that her local suicide prevention unit is not giving her a visit. How do the people who voted for her have the emotional and intellectual ability to vote? Advising her fellow right-wing extremists to slit their wrists is insane. These people must be homicidal as well as suicidal—sometimes the anger turns inward, and slicing the big arteries in the wrist can have the unfortunate unintended consequence of having the person bleed out.
The article continues “I really do think that the Michele Bachmanns of this world and the Glenn Becks of this world are actively and consciously — or subconsciously — trying to get — I'm just going to say it — trying to get the president killed,” Savage stated angrily. “That's why they're setting this up as kill-or-be-killed arguments.
‘He's going to kill your grandma.'”
“Somebody's got to put the brakes on it, and unfortunately in the Republican Party, there are no adults left in the room,” continued Savage. “There are only the Michele Bachmanns and the Glenn Becks and the Rush Limbaughs running the show.”
Is that hyperbole? Charles Grassley, the ranking minority member on the Senate Finance Committee said the same thing. So its entertainers, former Alaskan Governors and high ranking members of the GOP inciting armed lunatics to violence with their references of killing poor, old, defenseless grannies.
Recently Beck admitted what his motivation was and his desires are similar to others in the right-wing extremist propaganda unit.
