OK! Now that my liberal friends are pissed off and right wingers think they may have found yet another excuse to hate the imperial, nazi, Kenyan terrorist who stole their 'white' house, let me lay out a rather simple set of facts and draw what I think is an inescapable conclusion. In my humble opinion, one of the main reasons that the racist tea party has gained control of the republican party is president Obama! Allow me to explain.
In spite of the long list of accomplishments the president has achieved in the face of the complete republican obstruction, imagine if the president had been a fighter and pushed back immediately against all the absurd "kill granny", Frank Luntz "big government takeover" lies! It would have been a game changer if the majority of Americans knew from the get-go that the ACA was fundamentally a republican plan that the Heritage foundation crafted and Romney had successfully implemented already! Imagine if instead of working in semi secrecy, if president Obama had brought the public along as he crafted the ACA and kept them continually informed of the facts! Think of the difference if from the beginning, the public had known about the 80 - 20 requirement, or the fact of not being dropped for pre-existing conditions, or that all projections were that the ACA would bring costs down and help reduce the deficit. Or if John-Q understood the obvious truth that the only ones who would benefit by rejecting "Obama care" and maintaining the status quo as the Republicans wanted, were the insurance corporations who had been extorting Americans and driving up costs and potentially destroying the lives of some 50 million uninsured!
However the fact is, for all his laudable qualities, president Obama for far too long was timid and kept bending over backward, trying to please the right. The hard truth is he began the healthcare debate by turning his back on his progressive base and simply giving away the single-payer option! He rolled over again and again trying to get some republican cooperation. He was naive in the extreme. Of course we now know they were never going to cooperate on any issues and all the president's attempts to negotiate, and his rolling over so often only caused republicans to grow more and more arrogant and demanding as they increasingly perceived the president as weak.
I believe if president Obama had in fact been a fighter, the tea party would have been exposed as the loud, nasty, ignorant, hate-filled minority they actually are and would never have gotten the traction they did. I believe if he had not been timid so many times, the Republicans would not have become so arrogant and willing to ignore the welfare of Americans and spew such absurd lies in their un-American agenda to destroy the duly elected president. Unfortunately since there was so little push back, more and more people began to believe the lies... and the Republicans were willing to ignore the obvious racism. I must admit Republicans have sustained a very effective campaign modeled on the nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbel's "big lie" approach. They simply ignored the facts and kept telling their lies over and over until the masses began to believe it eventually. If you doubt it just consider how many obviously ignorant, obviously racist members of congress are screaming their obvious lies. EBOLAGHAZI! Unfortunately we are a nation with a rather large number of disinterested, self-absorbed and ultimately ignorant people" which is exactly the fertile ground Republicans and their plutocratic masters have exploited.
If you have been paying attention, you know president Obama seems to have finally figured out the futility of trying to reason with ignorant and unreasonable people. He has just neatly boxed the Republican obstructionists in and set them up with his executive order. Brilliant! Which of course is why Republicans are whining and screaming their absurd "imperial" type non-sense. Their racist, anti-immigrant agenda and lack of any actual plans to do ANYTHING has been put under a spotlight. The president in essence has said 'put up or shut up'! and the tea party-led gop hates being outfoxed by a black man who is smarter than them. I am so glad the president has finally learned you can't reason or make deals with fascists who only want you to fail. It is a shame it took the president so long to come to this obvious conclusion.
It is a matter of record that Republicans never seem to learn from the past and simply keep pushing the same old "trickle down" plans which have repeatedly failed in the past. Once again they promise a different result this time (I believe that is considered one definition of insanity). It is to be hoped that Democrats, independents, moderates and anyone paying attention will profit from the past and reject the Republican call to return to the status quo.
We need to make a real effort to keep the public involved and informed. We need to profit from the non-stop racism and hate the Republicans have demonstrated over the last six years. We need to wake the hell up and stand and fight the plutocratic takeover of our democracy by billionaires like the Koch brothers. We must elect courageous fighters like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. We must reject the cowards and corporate whores who ignore the will of the people. It will start when reasonable, thinking Americans collectively reject the minority who march under the banner of the tea party. We must utterly reject their racist stormtrooper agenda of hate and denial of facts and science. WE MUST VOTE! or we can ignore these fascists and their hate and lies and shootings, and the hunger and the poverty and simply sit back and watch "reality" T.V. as our democracy that so many have fought and died for turns to dust.
