I'm feeling quite good about myself today. I just mailed a check to the IRS to pay my share of the $50 million spent on the 40 votes to repeal Obamacare in the House of Representatives. I'm also proud to help defray the financial burden of the $7 billion of military equipment we will leave in Afghanistan next year.

I'm so looking forward to the upcoming fake emergency threat of forcing the government to shut down instead of paying the bills it itself has incurred. I guess 40 votes is not enough. Now the Republicans are going to defund the government in order to defund the Affordable Care Act, (Obamacare), a law that was passed by Congress, challenged by Republicans and confirmed by the Supreme Court.

It's so nice to see my money at work.

To make my day a little brighter, I remind myself that we can't be too far away from campaigns that remind us that no one, not even incumbents, are Washington insiders.

But why am I complaining? After all, Congress has been working on a budget for four years and so far hasn't passed one. It's good to know they are so cautious with our money.

As a matter of fact they just recessed and left several items on the table for September when they come back and begin their breakneck pace of deliberations for our benefit. To me, that's a sure sign they are protecting our money.

I shouldn't complain. At least I didn't get singled out for scrutiny like the 47 percent that don't pay income tax. So as is the case every year, I get to submit a portion of my hard earned money so they can perform the miracles they regularly produce for the benefit of our country. And all you have to do is read the news to find out how well they're working.

The economy is improving but people can't find jobs that pay a living wage. Our infrastructure is collapsing but we are still militarily meddling in the Mideast at the cost of millions. The budget sequester has weakened our already shaky educational system, the one true investment into our future. And now we can carry a concealed weapon in every one of our 5o states. Oops! Sorry, that's the state legislatures' doings.

But there I go again, I've allowed myself to forget the fact that whether at the national or state level, the whole political thing is essentially burlesque. Burlesque so well performed that you can read, watch or listen to the popular main stream media 24 hours a day, seven days week and will rarely get a glimpse at the reality beneath the parody.

Instead of that glimpse, what we get is the result of special interest agendas designed to lead us in another direction away from the real mechanisms that affect our lives. How else can they get people to vote against their own interests?

Whether we like the show or not, the price of admission is mandatory. So there's nothing to do but learn to stop worrying and love the show.

Excuse me for mixing burlesque with opera, but remember, the show's not over till the fat lady sings. Drat's! Where's a fat lady when you need one?
