If you've been following the unravelling of the Sarah Palin "perfect family" fantasy, you'll recall that (like them or not) the National Enquirer has been leading the charge to discover the truth (or at least some verifyable dirt on this crew)

Last week they ran a feature alleging that Palin had an affair with her husband's business partner, and the new issue includes stories from a source who details the moral shortcomings of the two eldest Palin children including allegations of drug addiction and promiscuous sex.

The REAL news in this diary is that, when I went to my local WalMart to purchase the National Enquirer, IT HAD BEEN PULLED FROM THE STORE'S SHELVES!

The WalMart in question is located near Savannah Georgia. We went to the customer service desk to ask why the magazine that I purchased in that store the previous week was not available.

The clerk said:

"I think the VENDOR pulled it. I don't know why.."

The clerk working the other register laughed.

"I KNOW WHY!..Let's just say 'ye shall know the TRUTH and the truth shall SET YOU FREE!'"

Fortunately the Kroger store down the street had a good supply of the tabloid (which tells me that the VENDOR didn't pull it.)

What I am now trying to discern is whether this is a local issue or an action by Walmart's corporate office.

IF this is a widespread action initiated by the National Republican Party, WalMart Corporation, or more importantly IF Palin's people themselves precipitated this action, it will be one of the most important stories to date!

It will reinforce the allegation that Palin is willing to "ban books" that offer differing views.

As juicy as the story of a national ban would be, we've had our share of local censorship by the "Good Ole Boy" Republicans in our area.

Just before the election in 2004, our local theatres quietly decided not to play the Michael Moore film "Farenheit 911", apparently due to pressure from Republican politicians. Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson http://isakson.senate.gov/ who was in Congress at the time was featured in the documentary in a very unflattering interview.

I organized several local activists to protest the censorship. We bombarded the local theaters, newspapers, and television stations with letters and news releases demanding our right to view the new release.

In the end freedom of speech triumphed and the Savannah movie chains said the whole incident had been "a mistake".

I have started to work this story as well. I have informed the National Enquirer, CNN, MSNBC and The Huffington Post of my concerns.

If you happen to be in YOUR local WalMart, please check and see if they are stocking the tabloid.

Any additional info will be appreciated!
