ACT 4, SCENE 2

(Hamlet enters.  He hears his name
                                   being called.)

                                   HAMLET
            Here we go.

                                   (Enter Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.)

                                   ROSENCRANTZ
My lord, what have you done with the body?

                                   HAMLET
I've reunited it with what it's related.

                                   ROSENCRANTZ
Tell us where it is, we must get it to the chapel.

                                   HAMLET
            Do not believe it.

                                   ROSENCRANTZ
            Believe what?

                                   HAMLET
That I can keep some secrets, and then not others.  Besides,
to be scrutinized by a sponge--what type of response should
there be from the son of a king?

                                   ROSENCRANTZ
You take me for a sponge my lord?

                                   HAMLET
Yes, one that soaks up the king's favor, his reward, his
power.  In the end, such officers serve him best.  He
squeezes you to find out what you know, and like a sponge,
            you're dry again.

                                   ROSENCRANTZ
I don't understand you my lord.

                                   HAMLET
I'm not surprised.  Metaphor falls to sleep in the ears of
            idiots.

                                   ROSENCRANTZ
My lord, you must tell us where the body is and go with us to
            the king.

                                   HAMLET
The body is with the king, but the king is not with the body.
            The king is a thing.
