ACT 3, SCENE 4

(The Queen sits in her chamber,
                                   Polonius enters.)

                                   POLONIUS
Your majesty, the prince will be here at any moment.  (He
moves towards tapestry.)  Simply be clear with him that his
behavior will not be tolerated--that you've already shielded
            him from censure.

                                   GERTRUDE
            I hear him coming.

                                   POLONIUS
            Be firm, I'll be here.

                                   (Polonius hides, Hamlet enters.)

                                   HAMLET
            Now, mother, what's the matter?

                                   GERTRUDE
Hamlet, you have offended your father, greatly.

                                   HAMLET
Mother, you have offended my father, greatly.

                                   GERTRUDE
Do not play games with me.

                                   HAMLET
I request you not do the same.

                                   GERTRUDE
            Hamlet, please....

                                   HAMLET
            What?

                                   GERTRUDE
Have you forgotten who I am?

                                   HAMLET
No, I haven't.  You are the Queen, your husband's brother's
            wife--or otherwise--my mother.

                                   GERTRUDE
I'll bring in someone else to speak with you.
