Spring Trees by Theresa Paulfranz

( poem written after reading the book

"Wild Animals I have Known" by

Ernest Seton-Thompson )

Brave heart, animal heart, once I had

So brave to face life and the rising sun

So brave to face death and the sunset

So willing to suffer for one's animal offspring

Now I am human, human as predator and prey to itself

So covetous of life at any cost bravery is lost

So afraid of noble death and chance for a new life

Human failure to find meaning in the dance

Failure to advance and species self-sabotage

Soul-failure and no reach for the stars

Huddling in creature comforts when it is late for that

Where is your nobility human creature?

Too long I have tarried in this human duldrum

My soul yearns for a distant star

Forsaking earth-lust I want soul-fire

And safe passage to a vaster destiny

Aspiring star-ward I embrace my earth-karma

Free to fly I must be soon

Wings there are to the inner light body

I am hoping for planet-hopping between lifetimes

I want to go to a planet with no cities

A planet where people nestle in the trees

Are friends with all the animals in the forest

Having a friendly rapport with all life in brave fusion

I want to feel the love of my bretheren

Feel the heart of the lion and tender love of the dove

Feel the cunning of the fox and the long vision of the eagle

Feel the mother love of a planet for all her own

Willingness to live and death/rebirth with all planet-life

I will finally merge with the sunrise/sunset

Achieve soul-destiny reaching past single species-hood

I merge all species-love together

Within my vast new spheric body

Chakra-spin becomes planet-spin

The dance of Day/Night, Dark/Light, Death/Life

Will finally be mine

I am a hippy that never dropped out. I have held on to impossible idealism and will not give up. I think the human race is a ticking time bomb and we are at the last tick. So what is the good of slow careful pragmatism that allows time for it all to (more...)
