On 12/17/11, I received the following email from author Vicki Noble. It is being reprinted with permission. I suggest you research this issue further. Read the American Medical Association Report closely (listed at the end), especially if you have kids that may be taking the vaccine Ms. Noble is speaking about. The concern surrounds the ability of for-profit drug companies having the power to legislate decisions.

More importantly, question the ability of a for-profit industry to dictate what medical procedures we have, especially in the face of scant evidence of efficiency within certain age groups.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vicki Noble writes:

On Thursday I stood in front of the Santa Cruz County School Board and gave a short talk about a concern of mine. I thought you might appreciate what I had to say about the recent bill signed into law by Jerry Brown that takes away the parental consent needed in the past in order for children to receive vaccinations. I don't know why Jerry Brown did this--surely he was misled by the giant pharmaceutical company, Merck, who has aggressively marketed the drug to our young girls (and now our young boys as well). I only had three minutes to speak to the School Board, so my remarks were very concise.

My talk at the School Board:
I am here today because I am alarmed over a rush to mandate vaccines for HPV (human papillomavirus) for school age girls. Some states have already tried to mandate the vaccine, although they have ended up postponing or allowing parents to opt out. But in October, Jerry Brown signed into law AB499, a bill that officially removes the requirement in California for parental consent in order for the vaccine, Gardasil, to be administered to girls entering 6th grade or turning 12 years of age. I'm worried about coercion of our minor children to receive a drug that has not even been tested for this age group--the girls themselves are the guinea pigs.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the US and has been linked with cervical cancer. Merck, the patent owner and producer of Gardasil, claims the vaccine will prevent cervical cancer--thus, the rush toward mandatory legislation, for which Merck heavily lobbied (making contributions to legislators who voted in favor of the bill). But HPV rarely leads to cancer (less than 3% of all infections) and 90% of all those who contract HPV clear the infection within two years without incident. Also, the wide use of Pap smears for detecting cervical cancer has led to incidences of this cancer falling off sharply in recent years.

Health departments put out information saying the vaccine is safe and has no serious side effects. But when the FDA approved the use of Gardasil in 2008, Judicial Watch filed Freedom of Information Act requests for documents concerning Gardasil. Reports of serious side effects between 2008-2010 include thousands of emergency room visits, hospitalizations, many of them for paralysis or other neurological disorders that don't go away, as well as 93 deaths. These results are six to eight times greater than known side effects and disabling events for all other vaccines in this age group (12-17). The death rate from cervical cancer isn't nearly as high as the rate of reported serious adverse events, including death, from Gardasil!

I urge you to educate yourselves on this matter and be prepared to protect our young girls and now our boys too, since Merck is marketing the drug to them as well. It should come as no surprise that in November, Merck reported a major increase in 3rd-quarter profits due to the "skyrocketing sales" of Gardasil--up 41% to $445 million thanks to government backing and a successful ad campaign. The thought of my 6th-grade granddaughter being vulnerable to vaccination without her parents' informed consent, with an untested pharmaceutical whose long term effects are totally unknown, is frightening to me--and absolutely unacceptable. Thank you for being aware of this important issue and taking appropriate steps to prevent such an outcome.
