Chomsky Has Faith That Western Nations Can Be Changed

Single payer ran into a buzz saw. The health insurance industry owns enough legislators to chew up single payer and spit it out as a useless and wasteful public option.
Over the decades that Chomsky has criticized the military/industrial complex they have become all powerful and almost unassailable. Nobody seriously questions their power and impact. When Bush started wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, nobody important dared to say, "Boo!" Nobody dared to mention the killing of 1.3 millions Iraqis.
In contrast, the establishment allowed the leftists to rake Israel over the coals for killing a few thousand Palestinians. They called it genocide. They urged the government to cease sending $3 billions yearly to Israel. This was so much smoke. They urged the public to concentrate on the 1400 dead in Gaza instead of the 1.3 millions dead in Iraq.

Response to UN Goldstone Report:

Mary Robinson: "I am afraid the resolution is not balanced ... This is unfortunately a practice by the Council: adopting resolutions guided not by human rights but by politics. This is very regrettable." (Le Temps, 4 February 2009).

Amazingly, the government critics never allude to the $7 trillions in military spending projected to increase the national deficit during the next decade.

What stops the House from defunding the war effort?

Let's be analytical for a moment. Does anyone seriously contend the US has the patience to wait ten years to wrap up the Afghanistan situation? On one future day we will cut our losses and withdraw from Afghanistan. The faster we get out of there the fewer debts we will incur.

Such common sense thinking has no appeal for the tea baggers either.

National Socialist Health Care Dachau 1945

Representative Michelle Bachmann [R-MN] urged the tea baggers to come to the nation's Capitol for what she deemed an emergency House call. Her purpose was to kill health care reform legislation.

Brad Freidman made a previous documentary that revealed much of what goes on in the minds of tea baggers who prepare to board the bus.

Unarmed, the tea baggers appeared distracted not focused on the event at hand. Alone, or in small groups, they seem less vocal and hostile.

The tea baggers have the intellectual depth of a drop of water on cement. Assembled on the Capitol steps they were predisposed to be lectured at rather than listened to.

Dozens of lawmakers spoke to them promising "not a single Republican vote for health care."
