For OpEdNews: William Cormier - Writer Yesterday, without headlining the article or giving it the attention it deserved, CNN published an article from Fortune Magazine that offers reasons why our gas shortage in Metro Atlanta and other areas is so severe - and why it could get worse and cause food shortages in the affected areas, which could easily widen: Gas shortages: get ready for more The long lines and closed pumps seen across the South this week are a warning: inventories are way too low.
By Brian O’Keefe, senior editor
September 26, 2008: 1:29 PM ET
In its most recent Weekly Oil Data Review, Barclays Capital pointed out that the U.S. gasoline inventory has reached its lowest level since August 1967, when demand was a little more than half its current level of 9.3 million barrels a day. At 178.7 million barrels, inventories are 21.6 million barrels below their five-year average.
“Our system is so fragile,” he told me recently. “All you need is a tiny change to go from ‘Oh, we’re in fine shape’ to an unmitigated disaster.”
Simmons points out that the gasoline weekly stock reports have been trending sharply downward since last winter (with a brief upturn in the spring), and that even before Gustav and Ike we were in “just in time” supply mode.
That’s why he worries about a top-up catastrophe that could cripple the trucking industry and disrupt food deliveries.
As he told me the other day: “If we end up having gasoline shortages, the odds are about 90% that Americans will do what we always do: We’ll top up our tanks. And in topping up our tanks, within three or four days we’ll drain the pool dry and then within seven days we’ll run out of food.” (Emphasis added) MUCH MORE, MUST-READ ARTICLE!
Now that we know “why” the gas shortage has been so severe and appears to be getting worse, we must ask ourselves how we got into such a short supply in the first place - and how do we get through this without making it worse to the point where it affects food deliveries, a crisis that could be brewing that could easily cause widespread panic and help to usher in martial law. Many of us have been attempting to understand why the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has been assigned to duty within the continental United States; however, as Team Bush has clearly demonstrated these past few days, they have known about our financial implosion and sat on it, developing bailout plans to protect the corporations and wealthy, all the while assuring the general public that the “economy was strong.”
This is an evil administration that makes contingency plans for our eventual financial collapse and plots how the fascists can benefit from our collective misery, all of which could easily come to a head before the November elections. Now that we know our gas supplies are razor-thin, and for now, are not enough to supply the nation - we must also grasp that this is a situation with huge national security implications, and you can bet your last tank of gas that Bush and his co-conspirators are aware of, and will use this added “crisis” to their advantage. Len Hart nailed it down when he wrote:
Evidence that Bush Will Exploit ‘Crisis’ to Declare Martial Law
Add a growing gas crisis to an economic implosion that is shaking the world’s financial markets, and anyone who opens his/her eyes should be able to see how each and every event we are witnessing is the result of mismanagement and malfeasance in our government. We, as citizens, must ask ourselves some extremely brutal questions. Several Bloggers, myself included, have kept up with the flow of information and were able to predict this crisis well in advance of it striking. The evidence was everywhere, carefully hid from the public or watered-down by a complicit mainstream news media, but throughout the Internet, there have been warnings and calls for action that if answered, might have prevented our current crisis.
The very fabric of this nation is unraveling; one crisis follows another, and still, Bush and Cheney are entrenched in power when our situation today has been directly caused by the White House and their abject failure to govern our nation as per the rule of law. The people know that Bush’s 700 Billion dollar bailout plan (which really will cost far more than that…) is using taxpayer dollars to bail out private interests, many of who are being investigated - is nothing more than ripping off the taxpayer to help the wealthy and is “Taxation Without Representation.” All of us, deep down, know there’s a cancer in Washington that is spreading like wildfire. The body politic requires massive surgery to survive, and we need a “Presidectomy” to stem the flow of its treachery and hate for our constitution and the Bill of Rights. It’s time for Americans to react to this criminal tragedy that is unfolding and demand that Bush and Cheney resign from office and allow someone else to stand watch on a nation that is reeling out of control. Enough is enough.

Gas Shortage in Georgia- This is BS- and Scary
The entire Southeast has effectively been paralyzed by this "manufactured" gas shortage. From Atlanta to the North Georgia Mountains to the Carolinas and Tennesse. We have NO GAS or RATIONED GAS ($25 worth) Gas at $4 a gallon was hard enough to cope with- but now- NO GAS? And "they" are blaming it on IKE??? Gas jumped $1.50 a gallow 2 days before the storm even HIT Galveston!! Don't tell me that the "fix isn't in." This is a Marxist plan is indeed in the works. So we will be happy to pay Obama's $6 a gallon- gradually. And be Happy to have it! BS. This is crippling our economy- on top of all the OTHER manufactured crises we are dealing with in this economy. by Cool Pillow (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 4 comments) on Saturday, Sep 27, 2008 at 4:55:40 PM

Reply: Gas Shortage in Georgia - BS - and Scary
There are other fuels out there besides gasoline. Inventive people are collecting used cooking oil to fuel their vehicles; there is research going on right now on fermenting yeast (a fungus); and, also water to HHO - using a device costing $100 to buy and some extra $ to install if one cannot install it himself. The future is in clean energy: solar, wind, ocean wave, HHO, and geothermal. It's time to leave the past and move on into the future; support the innovators out there who are working to make clean, renewable energy possible. Also, Big Oil must be put on notice by the American people to deliver those gasoline supplies to the regions that need them. Hurricane Ike did not damage the refineries as badly as the oil companies said; so, it's time to deliver the gasoline. There are refineries in other parts of the country as well as the Gulf Coast. The Mid-Atlantic region - especially from New Jersey to Delaware - has refineries that can refine gasoline and deliver it. by eileen kuch (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 168 comments [18 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Sep 28, 2008 at 1:36:39 PM

China told its national banks yesterday to
no longer buy US treasury bonds. I predicted this before the Olympics, and I wouldn't doubt in the near future that the mainland begins to put pressure on Taiwan towards unification. China has been loaning the US over 7 billion a month and what has Bu$h and Co. done with it? Wastefully spending it on his Farce War Of Terror where trillions have been spent with billions unaccounted for. When they begin to unload this bad currency, the $ will lose its world dominance. The gas shortage is two-fold, one to restrict commerce and the other to keep the public closer to home. The 3rd something or other brigade is returning from Iraq in early October to begin patrolling the nations streets. So much for "Posse Comataus" laws written into the Constitution and Bill of Rights. They have been training in non-lethal monitoring, arrest and detention methods. So get ready for Martial Law. They still have to bring down the Canadian economy before they can enact the North American Union agenda, with the Amero replacing the Canadian $, the American $, and the the Peso. American's and Canadian's should get ready to have their lifestyles severely degraded to 3rd world status. The border fence serves to congregate the first wave of useless eaters into easier processing, with those in prison along with die hard "Constitution-ists" being the next wave for removal. Suburbia and inner-city's being the final assault against the populace and the NWO agenda of wiping the world of 3/5 of humanity "Georgia Stones". It's interesting times we are living in, and I'm sure thankful I decided not to procreate and have them inherit what-ever is going to be here 'If given that chance", after I'm gone. by Stanimal (2 articles, 366 quicklinks, 40 diaries, 1638 comments [324 recommended, 6 rejected]) on Saturday, Sep 27, 2008 at 11:33:41 PM

Reply: WHY NOT PUT IT IN GOD'S HANDS?
It is far better to turn it over to the best. We are unable to change the behavior of others. We need men to perform miracles. We will find them if we ask Him for them. Brother Wolfie knows stanimal can manufacture miracles. But only God can create. by Wolfie (9 articles, 0 quicklinks, 33 diaries, 1208 comments) on Sunday, Sep 28, 2008 at 12:50:54 AM

The elite's plan approaching final stages
The elite have divided the American people, mostly along race and religion, and made away with our money while weakening and destroying our rights. This has been in the works for decades beginning officially with the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. Britain wants its colonies back and they will have it because Americans only want to shop, fight over gas and watch football. It doesn't matter what CNN says. That is not what is happening. We are soon prisoners in this country. If you can get out you better get out now because complete and utter chaos and lawlessness at every level is about to ensue as soon as food cannot be delivered from the phony gas crisis. Ask yourself this? If Ike caused this gas shortage why wasn't it worse after Katrina. Americans don't think so now the elite are going to do all the thinking for us. No one else is going to save you. We need everyone to stop this power grab, not just a few well-spoken populists like Ralph Nader. We need all 300 million people to come together and reject this with the threat of physical violence. If we don't they will do it to us. Which do you prefer? Stop being a coward and afraid to lose what is already lost anyway. by Nfamous (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 104 comments [49 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Sep 28, 2008 at 9:37:07 AM
