The Green Party of Tennessee is honored to host Cynthia McKinney as she visits four communities across the state this week. “From community problems like landfill issues in Dickson to community solutions like the Biofuels plant in Memphis and community gardens in Nashville Ms McKinney will get to talk to people who are impacted and those with community-based solutions, a Green Party Key Value”, said Katey Culver Green Party of TN Co-chair.
Wednesday, August 20th McKinney will make three stops in Memphis. That evening she will be in Jackson, Tennessee for a fundraiser hosted by the Madison County Green Party.
Thursday, August 21st, McKinney's first stop is in Dickson to meet with representatives of the community who have been affected by the dumping of toxic waste in their community. Then to Nashville for an 11:00 AM Press Conference in Room 31, Legislative Plaza speaking to the press about her campaign. This event is open to the public. Following the press conference Ms McKinney will speak directly to the public and take questions. This will also be in Legislative Plaza, Room 31.
That morning Greens will turn in their nominating petitions to secure her position on the general election ballot in Tennessee. John Miglietta a delegate to the Green Party of the US and a Green Candidate for US House District 5 reported: “Due to Tennessee's oppressive election access laws Ms McKinney will be listed on the ballot as an independent candidate which we can achieve with 275 valid signatures. It would take over 45,000 valid signatures to get her listed with the “Green” affiliation. The Green Party is currently a litigant against the state seeking ballot access laws that are fair.” Following the Press Conference she is scheduled to visit Tennessee State University, Fisk University and Carver Food Park where Sizwe Herring of EarthMatters Tennessee teaches children and community members about the value of composting and principles of ecology.
Cynthia McKinney in her Chicago acceptance speech indicated why she had chosen to go Green, saying:"In 2008, after two stolen Presidential elections and eight years of George W. Bush, and at least two years of Democratic Party complicity, the racket is about war crimes, torture, crimes against the peace; the racket is about crimes against the Constitution, crimes against the American people, and crimes against the global community. The racket is even about values that we thought were long settled as reasonable to pursue, like liberty and justice, and economic opportunity, for all."
As the Green Party candidate, issues of environmental and racial justice will highlight her Tennessee visit. Cynthia has chosen to visit people and places that the Democrats and Republicans would rather forget, such as the victims of environmental racism in Dickson, Tennessee. I think this is why Cynthia is the best choice this election season, because it is clear that she is the people's candidate.

Chris Lugo, Green Candidate, US Senate, 615-593-0304, chris4senate@gmail.com
My name is Chris Lugo and I am a candidate for the US Senate seat in Tennessee. I am running as a progressive because I believe that the time has come to end the war in Iraq, ensure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care and to restore common sense and decency to our national dialogue. For far too long we have neglected the needs of the poor in America, allowing hundreds of thousands in Tennessee to go without healthcare and millions nationally. For far too long we have let our education system be a secondary priority to the military industrial complex.
As a result of these misguided funding priorities we have a graduation rate in Tennessee of only about 60% statewide for high school students and only about one quarter of all Tennesseans graduate from college. We must take solid steps to ensure that all Americans have safe and affordable housing, that we live in a clear and healthy environment, and that we take steps to address the deep divisions of inequity that still persist in our society.
I believe in the American dream and I believe that all Americans deserve the opportunity to have a rich and meaningful life, but the only way to ensure that these priorities are addressed is to make certain that our government makes this a priority, that our elected representatives make peace and social justice a priority on a national scale.
We are at a crossroads in history, and Tennessee faces a choice which we all face. Do we choose to continue down the path of abandonment, of hopelessness and fear or do we choose to embrace the compassionate, hopeful elements of our national identity? I for one, choose to hope. I believe that the government is here to serve the people and our elected leaders are here to serve you.
Being a member of her former constituency I can vouch for that! I can respect her for being rabidly anti-Bush & Co., but if the woman is so hellbent on continuing a career in politics -I'd recommend her running for a position on a local schoolboard somewhere that people don't expect much from an elected official because she was extremely inept in her duties as an elected representative and an embarassment to her constituents here in Georgia...
She initially scapegoated and blamed "Jews" for her first defeat....
Made an excellent documentary about the Electronic Voting machine controversy -that is, until the film became centered on her and her re-election bid...
Assaulted a cop after he attempted to stop her in the Capitol without ID and because he didn't recognize her??? Assaulted him for doing his job -which is supposed to protect HER from persons unidentified being on the grounds! Or was he scapegoated as a racist? A possible jew?
Let's see... high moments in her legislative career:
Pushed for re-opening Tupac Shakur's murder investigation.
Renamed a Post Office.
Became known for her hair-dos
She's lame and will try anything to stay in politics.
I'd be ashamed to have her identified as my party's candidate -but then again, I'm no longer affiliated with a party.
Good luck, but you guys honestly could do better... in fact, you could do so much better that you'd get my vote and a lot more!!!
She's sinking you guys. Nader hasn't exactly been that good for you either.

She was ousted from her seat because she would not play ball
...with those involved in creating EMPIRE and continuing the WAR MACHINE! Let's speak truth here. The Powers that Be tried to do the same thing to Kucinich.

I'd say that my bio has little to do with this, but if anything -it might help you to know that I am extremely liberal, voted for McKinney once, strongly supported Kucinich, and offered my honest criticism of Cynthia here. If you disagree with what I have presented, refute my facts rather than attack me...

Can you name a single accomplishment McKinney had during her terms as a Rep.? I mean, other than getting a local post office named?
Anyway, if your criteria for supporting a candidate lies with one single issue there's plenty of sorely qualified candidates just waiting for your vote...
Surely the Greens could come up with better candidates than Nader or McKinney? There's a wealth of votes for someone who does...
