This Thanksgiving, if your spouse or significant other is NOT cheating on you, you have a lot to be thankful for. Faithful mates are in short supply.
Infidelity is now at epidemic proportions. Infidelity in one form or another, -- emotional infidelity, internet infidelity, same-sex infidelity, workplace infidelity, female infidelity -- now affects 80% of all marriages and committed relationships today.
Infidelity Studies Confirm that Most People Cheat
As an infidelity expert who is frequently called on by the media to comment on infidelity issues in the news, I make it a point to stay abreast of the latest research in this field. Recent infidelity studies confirm that those who honor their marriage vows are the exception, rather than the rule. Look at the infidelity statistics below:
--- 50% to 70% of men cheat on their mates.
--- female infidelity has increased 50% in the past 10 years.
--- In one study, 70% of married women and 54% of married men whose spouses were cheating had no idea their partner was having an affair.
--- In another study, 60% of those who admitted to cheating, said their partner did not know about their affair.
This year, 3 medical journals published studies revealing that even happy husbands cheat on their mates, and even good marriages are susceptible to infidelity. So you can see that faithful mates are few and far between. Be very thankful if your spouse or significant other is among the faithful few.
False Assumptions About Having a Faithful Mate
Most people who are married or in a committed relationship automatically assume their partner is faithful. But as the statistics above indicate, only a small percentage of those in relationships can truthfully make that claim. Your best bet is to “trust -- but verify.”
Still the Last to Know
It's disturbing that even today, the infidelity victim is still the last to know. Especially since cheaters ALWAYS leave telltale signs behind. But most of the signs are subtle and easy to overlook. So, knowing what to look for is the key.
Many people still rely on the top 10 signs of infidelity to tell whether or not they have a faithful mate. Those who do can easily be misled. The classic signs of infidelity are the first signs a cheater will cover up. So even if your partner is cheating, you may never see those signs. If you don't know what to look for, you're doomed to be the last to know.
How More Marriages and Relationships Can Be Saved
If more people knew how to recognize the early warning signs of infidelity, more marriages could be saved. That’s one reason I wrote Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs which documents practically every known sign of infidelity - including the subtle signs most people usually overlook. (Despite the title, most of the signs in the book apply to both cheating woman and cheating men.) The earlier you spot the subtle signs of infidelity, the greater the likelihood that your marriage can be saved.
