Donna Ridgeway is a blogger living in the Santa Cruz, California area. She was raised republican and was in the military, but then started questioning.   She says the Failed Conservative Value is authoritarianism, it's a lose lose situation because if the authoritarian fails, everything fails. However she sees a lot of problems with progressives as well. There's a lot of egos with progressives and herding cats is hard.

Failed Conservative Values: Dona Ridgeway - it's Authoritarianism

My name is Donna Ridgeway.  I live in the Santa Cruz area.  I’m a blogger.  I go by the name of Momma Donna on all my sites.

Conservative values to me are one of conservation.  We are conserving and learning from the past, planning for the future, and living in the present.  That’s a good conservative to me.

Edwin:  And that would be what present conservatives are?

Donna:  Well, I’m not sure where a present conservative is.  I think there are a lot of people that cloak themselves in that kind of multi-colored coat, but they each have their own flavor of conservatism.  From what I can see now, they are spreading into the military conservative -- strength, power, progress through power, Pax Americana.

Economic conservatism, which I believe in, which is a good thing to go for, and then social conservatism, which I think are a bunch of really not very knowledgeable people.  They aren’t really into going out and finding out new facts about life.

Edwin:   And what are their values, the social conservatives?

Donna:  Again, there are many flavors of it, and it all depends on what group they are powerful in.  Basically, I think it has a lot to do with power over women’s bodies.  For some reason, they just have an absolute anal fixation on power over women’s productive parts.

Not men.  They never concern themselves with sperm, which to me is very unusual, since it takes two.  They are always concerned about women and the egg -- what happens to the egg.  Who handles the egg.  Where it goes.  Everything.

They believe that their way is Daddy knows Best.  And if anything fails, that’s because you didn’t follow my plan.  You didn’t follow through.

It’s all in perception.  Once you have authority over something, that means that you have to be completely responsible and accountable for it.  It – whatever you have authority over – has no power of its own.  All the power rests in the authoritarian.  If the authoritarian fails, everything fails.  It’s a lose-lose situation.

Believe it or not, I was raised Republican.  First of all, my father, he was a good Goldwater Republican.  We had many talks about it.  I felt the need as a good soldier, daughter, to be a Republican.

Conservatives accuse progressives

Conservatives  accuse progressives of being authoritarian because they want to use the power of the government to improve things. How do you answer that accusation?

Herding cats

Herding cats (progressives) is hard but just watch cats move when there is milk to be had.  You don't herd cats you paint a compelling enough vision and then just get out of the way.

Reply: got milk?

a great idea.. just use milk and they will all go in the same direction.. very creative.

I wonder how that translates into the real world? What is it that would get them going in one direction?????   I think it's for progressives to be clear on what their values are. If they get grounded in their values, they will see that is what milk is.  Empathy, caring, community, equality, justice, etc.

Http://ProgressiveSpirit.com the progressive milk truck or the great progressive breast project?

Reply: The future as a canvass

Vision - Why we do things

As an predominately a reserve army officer I have only led part-time volunteers.  As such if they couldn't see the point of what they were doing they wouldn't turn up next week.  I found that most of all they wanted to contibute and be valued for it.

We need to recognise that the future is a broad enough canvass for all of us to paint our part.  The trick is to be aware of what is happening around us and contribute in a way that is enhanced by and adds value to our neighbors contribution.

Reply: Too Much

There's altogether too much of teat-suckling going on already, and not enough respect for a man to keep what he earns. As long as your ideals require the confiscation of a man's property by coercive means, you aren't 'progressive'. That idea goes back many ages, and always with the same result -- tyranny.

It doesn't matter any more what political parties call themselves -- anyone who advocates liberty and individual rights will not be respected. We're 'loonies' because we don't believe that tinkering with the controls of the machine that enslaves us will ever set us free. As long as you advocate the use of the government gun to enforce welfare statism, you are more 'regressive' than anything else.

What would be wrong with restricting government to the role of protector of life and liberty, and otherwise letting people alone?

Reply: it's a democracy

People vote and decide what direction they want the country to go in.  We're all in it together in a community.. If you want to be alone and alienated from society you can find a cave somewhere. Even then you'll still be dependent on society for your car, roads, food, cloths, etc. etc.

These are Conservative values, What is being passed off for conservatism these days is nothing more than Neo-Liberals that jumped ship and are  pretending to be Republicans.

Reply: Are you then agreeing that conservative values have failed?

Why does the hard core 30% of conservatives  still support the failed conservative values that the Bush administration manifests?

Take the poll.

looks like there is a new option for the poll.
Abandon failed conservative values and become a Libertarian?

People are unique, not special.

Republicans are liars, bullys, crooks, and traitors. They recruit cowards and fat heads to survive. The authoritarian (crook) believes only in force and fraud. He knows how to exploit every human weakness from pride to lust to anger. But above all, he knows how to exploit fear.  (The only way to counter this filth is to cultivate a habitual black hatred.)
