11/23/03 WASHINGTON - The American Civil Liberties Union today denounced a classified FBI intelligence memorandum (see the link above), obtained by the New York Times, which gives police detailed instructions on how to target and monitor lawful political demonstrations under the rubric of fighting terrorism." (Emphasis added).

"....News of the classified (FBI) bulletin (about FBI crack-downs on dissent) also comes on the heels of an ACLU lawsuit against the Secret Service for the continuing practice of allowing pro-Bush protesters to remain visible to cameras during presidential appearances, and corralling anti-Bush protesters into pens or designated areas far from the media." Given that background information from five years ago, in which the police actually crack down on citizen photography of police abuse as "illegal" and "intimidation tactics", it should be clear why Amy Goodman and her Democracy Now! photographers were arrested at the Republican National Convention, for the "crime" of giving news coverage to the peaceful protests at the scene. This is important to understand, as many Americans are completely in the dark about the post-911 legislation and FBI activity curtailing American freedom, at large. We citizen journalists have an important job of spreading word. Please do so!

And while the author intends no partisan statement, it also is fact that such unlawful arrests targeting free speech are more likely to occur at the Republican National Convention, such as where Amy Goodman's arrest occurred, than at Democratic ones. The reason for this has nothing to do with defending Democrats in Congress who, after all and alongside Republicans, voted twice for the police-empowering Patriot Act. It does, however, have everything to do with the fact that it is typically those "who are against us" (the Bush Administration's policies) who are targeted as "terrorists" than those who are "for us" (the Bush Administration):

Among the ACLU's "terrorist" clients are Amnesty International, Food not Bombs, United for Peace and Justice, the anti-war American Service Committee (a peaceful Quaker anti-war group), Greenpeace, Arab and Muslim groups as subjects of racial profiling, and more. Of course, the ACLU itself has also uncovered more than one thousand pages of FBI spying on the ACLU.

The great concern here is that Americans at large, not only Amy Goodman and her photographers, are bound to become discouraged and not know what to do to stop such violations. Here are a few ways we can make a beginning to change things back to America, the Land of the Free as we once knew it and to take OUR country back----for which, after all, we PAY with our tax dollars and are fully entitled to!

a) Sign Credo phone company's petition to the Press to give full and unbiased coverage of this unlawful and un-American arrest

b) Write the press in your own home area and demand unbiased coverage. Make a clear statement to the effect that their credibility as unbiased news source is at stake, should they not cover this partisan and unconstitutional matter clearly and fully. Threaten not only to terminate your own subscription to the news entity, but tell them that you are passing word along to a team of concerned citizens in your area, asking that they do exactly the same as you: Demand unbiased and full news coverage of this and similar events, and tell them that they too will be terminating their subscriptions if this is not done.

c) Join a civil liberties group to help either amend or overturn the unconstitutional Patriot Act. I suggest the ACLU, Center for Constitutional Rights and The American Freedom Agenda. Credo is marvellous and full of integrity, too. Sign their petitions, pass them around absolutely everywhere to raise awareness and gather more signatures, and you will be part of the solution.

d) Write letters to the editor (of mainstream papers, the local papers and underground news sources) and post to blogs. Dial in to radio talk shows. Send group emails, asking that they be passed on. Raise awareness, everywhere you can! American liberals think that global warming and healthcare are the front burner issues, and while I agree, I must also say that free speech is slightly basic to even so much as discussing saving the whales et al. Repeat: Greenpeace is among those entities dubbed "terrorists" by the Bush Administration, in an official capacity, requiring the ACLU's legal help. If we think it stops there, we are just plain stupid. That's all there is to it.

e) Credo and Working Assets are part of the solution, since they (as a phone company) will not wiretap without court warrant. Ditto as regards Qwest. Sign up with them and you will protecting yourself, the power of the Judiciary as fundamental arm of government whose function is to put a "check" on runaway government power, and more.

The Patriot Act may very likely be involved in the arrest of Amy Goodman and her colleagues. The Act gives the police and FBI unilateral arrest powers without warrant or probable cause, and based on a definition of "Terrorist" which includes the word "activist". This is just another example of the Police State in action.

As of now it is only if you get out of line do the steel jaws snap shut on you these days. Now it is just anybody getting in the way by protesting anything in anyway. Of course the black hooded "anarchists" did damage and disappear giving the police the 'out' they needed to use force and arrest anyone in sight including those merely watching or filming the events as they happen. I have yet to see any of these hooligans be paraded about. Does 'agents provocatuer' mean anything to anyone? As to proving it---how? Designed to get away with it and hurt innocent parties. I think it is highly unlikely that real Anarchists were involved because these actions always aids the police. The police no doubt think that Anarchists are for chaos and violence, which doesn't match what real Anarchists want. They don't even need to infiltrate organizations anymore, just the marches. You will find this same pattern repeated because it works for them.

 If you think it is only protestors who are being targeted, alas, you are wrong.

If you think that the protestors were up to any violence---that is, those who were targeted for the crime of practicing their first amendment rights to peaceably assemble and address the government for a redress of grievances----you are wrong again.

Most of those targeted as "terrorists" by the police and FBI are doing nothing but practicing their PEACEFUL first amendment rights. If you look at the websites of the Center for Constitutional Rights and the ACLU, you will see such a multitude of examples of this that it is truly scary.

We ARE in a police state and it's not a matter of targeting wrongful violent protest. This is all about squashing free speech, and nothing else. It also represents the typical tactic of dictatorships: That is, to silence those whose agendas are counter to the higher-ups.

That's why all those entities named in the article above have all been officially called "terrorist" entities. It's not a joke. Make no mistake about it: If the pattern is to go after those opposed to the money-making of the Bush Administration, then they will go after us too eventually just for speaking freely, will be censoring books, they already are censoring and controlling the news media, etc. Repeat: This is not a joke. Wake up, Americans, before it is too late!!!!

PS I do not support violent protest

Anything I write would never be in defense of violent protest, or violent anything. I never participate in such matters, myself.

FYI there are many organizations that remain infiltrated to this day. Having served on the board of several of them, I can attest to that reality, from personal experience. Yes it' s the marches which are infiltrated but it's a lot more than that. Trust me.

Amy Goodman, it is time

It is now time that you Amy Goodman, and your colleagues at Democracy Now! began to (thoroughly) cover the anomalies which took place on that horrific day, 9/11.

Why do I say this? You see, it is because of this wretched Patriot Act that is meant soley to deter any dissent whatsoever in this country against these illegal and Godforsaken wars, a act drawn up well in advance of 9/11, that you, your producers and protesters alike were illegally accosted, (bogusly) arrested and later charged with felonies in MN.

Keep in mind that without 9/11, there is no Patriot Act!  9/11 provided this pernicious cabal the means with which to unleash it's heinous plan of destruction and fear that was unleashed, and to this day, ingrained upon the minds of a credulous America. And being this feckless no good complicit corporate media refuses to do it's job and look into the overwhelming evidence that the Trade Towers were brought down by a controlled demolition, well then, the mendacity and the illegal arrests of innocent protesters and this contrived America matrix will indeed continue. It is that simple.

Ms. Goodman please, "Go For It!" Perhaps then others would follow suit? Otherwise this country of ours will continue down a truculent path of tyranny and fascism.

Thanks anyways, I prefer to just comment.  The subject has been quicklinked, but quicklinks do not seem to be very effective, since this article ties in perfectly with why FBI should not be given expanded powers, and yet nobody mentions the FBI will be taking on expanded powers from October 1, and next week Mukasey will testify before Congress.

True democracy provides the solution: the ballot box

Here is a long-shot try at true election:

By the power of original jurisdiction in an election fraud lawsuit against the President
and a writ of mandamus within that lawsuit, the Supreme Court (minus Bush appointees
Roberts and Alito) could, before November, order all Boards of Election to guarantee
election integrity with public audit and, in view of the home foreclosure crisis, Election
Day registration.



The advantage of a writ of mandamus from the Supreme Court to the nation's Boards of
Elections is that any Board that does not insure true election with a public audit will be in
contempt of the Supreme Court, and, if the writ mandates Election Day registration in
recognition of the mortgage foreclosure crisis, numerous impediments to the right to vote
can be truncated.


Such a writ would involve minimal change. HAVA already mandates the paper record
with the manual audit capacity. A voter receipt would simply require a duplicate copy of
what the machine has registered. It should cost nothing to have an interested public
observe the counting, posting and reporting of votes at every precinct.


Books, articles, websites, films and at least one thousand page lawsuit have documented
election fraud.


They were powerful forces that won Bush vs Gore in 2000, considering the specious
argument that counting the ballots discarded by chad-gorged machines would violate the
one man-one vote Constitutional prescription. A national mobilization would be needed
to counter those forces in a The People vs The President of the United States lawsuit.
However, with an aroused citizenry and the machinery provided by the Internet
revolution, it should be possible to do this.


What is needed is a prepared lawsuit, a website for establishing support pledges of names
and money, and a widespread initiation of the true election movement. A suggested letter
is below. Please consider taking on this very important chance to win American freedom.

Currently, the nation has the presidential choice between a major party candidate who supports the
war on terrorism, and a major party candidate who supports the war on terrorism. While the
conventional wisdom posits that no independent or third party candidate can be elected, many
Americans are realizing that that is true because the election process is controlled by only two
parties. Electronic machines which control the movements of ships millions of miles out in space can
only too easily be programmed to give predetermined voting results.


It is a fateful time. American warships carrying weapons of mass destruction sail the seas.
Foreclosures and bankruptcies offer opportunity for a wealth and power elite to buy up more wealth
and power for pennies on the dollar. Deficit spending by government means crushing price inflation

An "original jurisdiction" - meaning the Supreme Court would be the first to try a case, (as in
Florida, 2000) - election fraud lawsuit on George W. Bush, has been prepared and a summary posted
at www._______________. In addition to petition for a writ of mandamus ordering all Boards of
Election to guarantee election integrity (** See below), the suit demands monetary compensation in
the amount of $____________________for all U.S. citizens who, by election fraud, have been robbed
of their Democracy birthright.



If sufficient grassroots names and money support such a lawsuit, it can be successfully filed, but a
national mobilization is needed.


If you wish to see this lawsuit succeed, please:


1. Forward this or a similar letter to an address in each of eight institutions in your State:
Third party; peace and justice organization; university or school; business; union; church; civic or
other organization; city government.


2. Canvas your own organization or list, asking members to pledge their name and any
amount of money. Total these and post the number of pledged names and the "bundled" amount of
pledged money in the designated space on the _______________ website.


3. After the filing of the lawsuit, follow further instructions regarding names and funds.


With guarantee of election integrity, "no strings" candidates with needed voices to add to the
national dialogue will have an unprecedented opportunity to be heard. Needless to say, the more
quickly mobilization is achieved, the more quickly a true election movement can succeed. Thank you

** Election Integrity by Public Audit must involve the right to vote, integrity of the vote, integrity of the
counting and integrity of the reporting.

Right to Vote: Especially because of the home foreclosure crisis, Election Day registration can be a
simple adjustment of the logistics of provisional voting.
Integrity of the Vote: Supermarket and other retail machines have, for years, guaranteed the integrity
of a transaction by rendering a receipt which can be compared to the official record. Discrepancies
should result in monetary fine of the BoE, to be rendered to the offended voter.
Integrity of the Counting: can best be verified by a public witness to the counting, including receipt
comparison, at every neighborhood precinct, immediately after the polls close.
Integrity of the Reporting: can best be verified by immediate public announcing and posting of
precinct level totals at each precinct, enabling each candidate to count his/her own votes.
