The AP is reporting that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating insurer American International Group (AIG), the mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the former investment bank Lehman Brothers.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are in federal conservatorship following potential insolvency. Last week the US government took a controlling interest in AIG, and Lehman Brothers Holding Inc. declared bankruptcy.
