Politically, I lean Libertarian. When discussing issues, I will slam Dems and/or Republicans.

Now, when it comes to really irritating me, just make an unfounded charge; I will call out whomever makes the charge if there are no facts to back it up! Another version of this is when I see something that is just plainly silly/ridiculous.

An example could be something stated which could be very easily disproved. Another example, and I see this frequently: Rather tha...

Let me take this first things first.

James Hansen, the Godfather of Man Made Global Warming wrote this in Scientific American in March of 2004:

Emphasis on extreme scenarios may have been appropriate at one time, when the public and decision-makers were relatively unaware of the global warming issue, and energy sources such as "synfuels," shale oil and tar sands were receiving strong consideration. Now, however, the need is for demonstrably objective climate forcing scenarios consistent with what is realistic under current conditions.

Every expert agrees that drilling will not bring new oil that matters for 10 to 20 years.

It is so easy to say this when there are no experts listed... It is so easy to say this while ignoring the fact that this was put up for a vote over 10 years ago, and 20 years ago when someone actually tried to create a legitimate energy policy for the US... Unfortunately, nobody has been interested in creating a legitimate energy policy for the last 35 years... AND, It is EXTREMELY convenient to simply ignore the fact that there are simply 0 alternatives being presented aside from conservation, which, given the increases in demand from China and India, will net us a negative result at best.   Now, alternative fuels technology.. How long for that...  Anyone??   First Mr. Budowski needs to define everyone, because there are quite a number of scientists saying we can start pumping oil within a year.

Brent Budowski considers it fraud to want to start drilling, however, he fails to mention that the CONgress wants to increase taxes on Gasoline to keep up with the higher price... (Congress wants its share of the action! When they set their price before, it was back when Gasoline was $.75 a gallon... Now that Gasoline is $4.00 a gallon, Congress wants more money.... He also forgets the fraud being perpetrated by some Dems in DC who want to raid the strategic oil reserve, as if that will help, some how.. Considering that there is less than 1 day's supply, somehow that argument appears to be a red herring.

He wants to talk pollution? How bout the fact that there is more pollution caused by nautural oil seepage right up from the ocean floor, per day, than all of the oil spills, EVER??? Here is an article from UCSB discussing how oil production helps to CONTROL oil seepage....

Now, remember that Scientific American quote in the beginning of the article? Mathematicians have uncovered that the numbers used in the IPCC reports were overstated by as much as 2000% click here Before people jump on me for saying so, Bear in mind that the man who came up with the IPCC models ADMITS to overstating the numbers... The math people just uncovered the evidence.

Brent, you are right, there is a HUGE FRAUD being perpetrated on the TAX PAYING PEOPLE of the United States, but at least, in this particular case, it is NOT John McCain.

Ciao, CZ

I have been concerned about animal suffering ever since
I received my first puppy Peaches in 1975. She made me take a good look at the animal kingdom and I was shocked to see how badly we treat so many animals. At 77, I've been a vegan for the past 30 years and I thank God every day that I am. I am most disturbed at how little the Catholic Church and Christian churches generally give to concern re animal suffering in their ministry. I wrote to 350 bishops in 2001 and only 10-13 respond...

Earth losing...

I found Brent Budovsky's article refreshing.  Not so much the negative comments.  Re "experts"-- naming them for either side of the discussion will probably not change my mind.  I'm with Brent because I love the earth as much as I believe he does.

Leave it in man's selfish hands and we will surely destroy it piece by piece.  Am I wrong in generalizing that it is the Democrats who are largely trying to conserve the wide open spaces with its beautiful forests and pristine rivers while the Repulicans like nothing better than to get their hands on it in the name of money -cutting down forests and exploiting the land for commercial purposes?

Look what happened during the Reagon administration - CAFOs started with all the cruelty it engendered to innocent farm animals.  Good for the environment?  I don't think so with all the concentration of wastes polluting nearby water reserves and ground tables.  Certainly, not good for the animals.

And what about the Iraq War? We now know that it was started with false information.  However, I doubt that Cheney's former corporation (Halliburton) was concerned as they charged astronomical costs to us the tax payers for materials and services.   So, I unlike the Republicans do not endorse raping the land for the small oil reserves it may contain.

What?????

Regards the commentary here. Now regards this writer he is basically right, except to elect Obama solves nothing!!!!!!  The planet is horribly polluted and has many severe problems. WE DO NOT NEED the oil for fuel, NONE of it for that purpose. Fuel is NOT needed to generate electricity and run cars. A very successful electric car was developed in California and subsequently destroyed. The problem with the car was needing to be plugged in. If Earth thugs would allow the development of the methods brought by Tesla, we would have never even been on oil for energy.

The tesla coil in a car will generate all the electricity needed to drive the car. It would not need to be plugged in. We are IN global warming from a variety of causes. Some which can be affected by man, and others, like being in the Photon belt, he can't solve, but must live through it. The whole solar system is warming.

The ONLY solution to our energy problems are windmills, and tesla coils at this point. I remind readers here, the windmill does NOT use fuel. Tesla Coils can be installed in cars (for ones designed to run on electricity), buses, buildings and appliances.  We have to get off the oil, and a wet noodle lashing to the one who suggested more oil leaks naturally than is spilled. SO WHAT. WE need not add to the natural spillage. And we DO have to solve all the pollution and farming issues from the misuse of oil and we must start it NOW. We don't have the suggested time frames by the poly tics, to solve the issues. Oil is only for manufactur of some plastics, period. We don't even need the plastics, truly we do not. We made do without them until we began to make them. Most plastics are very polluting.

We can go back to real farming, like the Cuban's had to do in the 1990's, when they lost their oil imports. We are growing food on dead soil and that won't go on much longer either.

Listening to Mc Cain with his drill, drill, kill, kill lecture once again today. Obama is NO better, NONE gets to be president unless thye are in agreement to serve the NWO. That's the reality and I see nothing original in this jerk either.

This world is in a stage now, of NO WAY OUT of its problems. It will face its "karma" reaping what it sowed, including the use of oil for energy. Clean coal technology is NOT the answer either Mc Cain, nor is nuclear. A lot of the earthquakes we have experienced have been drilling related. Empty caverns collapse.  The quakes of 2004 that produced the big tsunami were caused by man. Would have happened eventually anyway, in that region, but what happened is that the natural gas extraction in that area was decreasing and AMERICA placed a bomb in there to "loosen it up" shortly before the quake occurred. It loosened it up alright, and lots of people died for that. The submarine that was damaged later on, was down there to place another!!!!!!! Seems the earthquake kinda messed things up. My.

This nation, it's people are guilty of a great deal of mischief on this planet. They continue to support the beast in two ways, intentionally, or because they will not look and get knowledge. Either way, what's coming is going to hurt.

California has caused some of its own problems with pumping oil and gas. And they will experience radiation escaping through the coming quakes from the Nevada "testing grounds" which is moving down into the LA basin. There is already evidence, the people there are smelling sulfur and the like from the caulderas locted near those underground testing areas. Sign of the times to come. It is time to awaken and smell the coffee.  Take care, Candace Frieze.  www.abundanthope.net/pages

so you are aware...

if we were to cover the entirety of the national lands with windmills, we would be able to achieve 15% of the energy we use per day, in a week.

As things stand, we are a world away from achieving any type of green energy solution....  it is possible, in 50 years, that we could have something, but that will not help us at all in the short term.

The main reason for this problem is the lack of a cohesive energy plan since the early 70's...  I am in no way trying to demean your point, I am just stating the facts as they are at this moment.
