As a concerned wife, mother and American citizen, thank you to Senator Arlen Specter for his public statement regarding his potential decision to switch to the Democratic Party and/or running for re-election in 2010 http://www.opednews.com/articles/Senator-Arlen-Specter-to-S-by-John-R-Moffett-090428-971.html).
One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is exactly what Senator Arlen Specter did today--abandon POLITICS, in the interests of justice and the protections of children, adults and families. Senator Specter's courage to share a sensitive challenge that most elected public officials deal with on a day to day basis is a great way to celebrate the 100th day of President Barack Obama's term in office.
As Day 100 of President Obama's term in office arrives, there is a renewed hope in the air. Despite the challenges we face today, we must never allow politics to destroy exactly what we fight to protect, our country's freedoms to speak, publish and think. When a U.S. Senator makes a decision to act on behalf of all the people he serves, free of political interference, we know that our country is on the road to success.
As an advocate for nationwide legislation that guarantees the fair administration of justice to victims of sex abuse crimes, I have witnessed what political interference has created in our society -- failures to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Children cannot protect themselves -- they need us. Senator Specter has shown our children and the world that political affiliation is not about life or death -- it is about doing the right thing!
WITHOUT JUSTICE, THERE WILL NEVER BE PEACE. WITHOUT PEACE, FAITH AND OUR COUNTRY'S LAWS ARE EMPTY.
