A fishing captain once said, "Being observant pays." It is a simple phrase in itself. Anyone can say it without knowing its meaning. But, when a man who, for his entire life, has watched seemingly simple systems fail and knows the consequences of inaction casually states "being observant pays," one takes it to heart. How much more complex is a global society of humans than a fishing boat? How much more important is it to be on watch or to maintain important components? The great majority of people are asleep in the hold, seasick, or just along for the ride.

How did so many people become completely deceived? The answer is: magic. Not magic of the fantasy fairytale variety, but magic of the carnival card trick variety. How baffling can a simple circus trick be? How amazing is a master magician on a stage? Now, imagine them working as a team to fool people. It quickly becomes real smoke and mirrors. That magic is real. The tricks themselves are all mechanical and performed exactingly. People are bewildered because the secrets are not revealed.

There is a sucker born every minute. Fooling the masses is nothing new. Unfortunately, a line was crossed one very strange day. This magical act created some problems for a massive number of people. A robust conspiracy hypothesis can explain quite a bit:

Several jerks had a diabolical plan to get some attention. Some smart people took advantage of the narrow-minded and stupid dupes and led these jerks every step of the way to commit a terrible crime. Why? There was another, more diabolical plan in operation. This plan involved creating a huge diversion while cooking the books both figuratively and literally. It was a plan cleverly piggybacked on another tragedy, and it ultimately worked despite complications. The complications were caused by another even more diabolical player. They could have been the locals just cleaning house. In any case, they were heavies... real professionals. This is the part where the magic occurred because the ones who thought they were running the show were flummoxed. Why? The buildings were plenty strong. They were built like Cadillacs by the best architects and iron workers in the world. Could structures of that size be designed and built with an inherent flaw that makes it possibly fold like a zipper? Not likely. There were supposed to be scary fires and nothing more. The original operators in action felt control of the situation slipping away. The reaction was that of panicked damage control. The whole body of evidence was swept up and swept away. Then the details of the day were covered up and covered some more. It was surprising they all got away with it, but they did.

The foremost problem with allowing disinformation of great magnitude to permeate society is a total loss of integrity. Any discussion regarding intellectual honesty is rendered moot by an overarching dishonesty. While systems of laws are not perfect, a great feature of modern courts is the examination of evidence. It is the one practice that establishes the moral high ground. It takes energy, effort and honesty to establish something to be objectively true. Endlessly repeating something false takes little effort or honesty, not to mention that it does not make what is being said true. Without evidence, there is no moral high ground, no honesty and no integrity. The whole basis for the direction the world has taken is based on hearsay.

A second major problem, which immediately reveals itself as a motive for all the murder and deception, is the military industrial revolution now under way. It is like the industrial revolutions of before, where the few connected to industry prosper magnificently while the masses struggle to exist. This time, however, the products are components for modern warfare. The factories churn out the parts. Other companies buy them and make finished products. Then, all of it is dumped on the dirt on the other side of the world. Would it be bad if taxes paid for their gravy train? It is worse than that actually. They are charging future generations for their unfettered profiteering.

Other problems stemming from the WTC scandal include the foreclosure crisis, the financial crash, the rise of a police state, and rampant political corruption. These problems are, however, only accessory. They develop when it was realized just how far scandals can go when too few people are observant.

When the magic genie finally fails to stay in the bottle, there will be hell to pay. Over time, compounding lies reach a natural limit. People grow weary of those who keep telling lies. The liars fervently believe in fabrications they have been made to swallow. The amount of confusion generated becomes manifold. Many people will die the way children often die--wide-eyed and unaware of danger until it is too late. The people ruling the world will die a teenager's death--brazenly flying in the face of the universe right to the end. The few who are observant, however, can face death like adults. Doing so means finding clarity and resolve, taking the helm, backing the engines, dropping the anchor, starting a pump, patching a hole, jettisoning some ballast, and whatever else it takes to turn a dangerous situation around and begin steaming the human race on a safer heading.
