DeLay's Dirty Dancing
by dengre

Mon Sep 21, 2009 at 05:25:21 PM PDT

So tonight a destructive, lying, little prick will take to the dance floor. For many it is a joke--something funny, a spectacle to laugh at and gawk. Some supposed "good government" nonprofits are using the event as a shameless opportunity to fundraise. Like many other groups in DC they seem to be all about the Benjamins: a lot of spin and little action.

Meanwhile the victims of Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff and their scams wait for justice. These are the victims who had their labor and wages stolen and/or are the young women (and some young boys) forced into the global sex trade. All this was done through the system of labor abuse and human trafficking protected by Tom DeLay for more than a decade.

As some laugh at DeLay doing a two step, you'll have to excuse me--it is not funny.

To explain why I want to share an entry by human right advocate Wendy Doromal from her blog Unheard No More.

To the jump...
dengre's diary :: ::

Wendy Doromal is an American Hero.

She is an extraordinary woman who has been fighting to extend basic human rights to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) for more than 25 years. Jack Abramoff, Tom DeLay and The Pirates of Saipan have spent thousands of hours and piles of cash to stop her. She's been threatened, slandered, shot at, belittled and ignored.

Still, she keeps fighting.

On her own dime, she has repeatedly returned to the CNMI to document the status of the workers and advocate for an end to the cycle of abuse. Her blog, Unheard No More keeps track of the abuse and the efforts of the Pirates to protect their kleptocracy. It is essential reading and I link to it in every comment I make at Daily Kos.

Her post tonight on twinkle toes DeLay is something everybody should read. I checked with her and got her permission to repost it here. Please take a moment and look it over. This is why the modern Republican party--the party of Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, George W. Bush, and Fox News--is morally bankrupt.

Tonight Tom DeLay is dancing and in the sex clubs of Saipan (and other locations around the globe) so are more young women whose entry into the global sex trade was protected by DeLay.

...Take it away Wendy...

ABC is a Pimp: Dancing Delay

The first victim of human trafficking that I ever met told me that she danced in her tears. She was recruited from Manila, Philippines to work as a waitress in the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), but she was forced to strip and dance in a sleazy club seven nights a week. Every evening after the club closed, she was sold to customers against her will. By dawn she was locked inside a rundown barracks until the next evening when she would again dance in her tears.

Back at the end of the last century, the issue of sweatshops was getting a lot of mainstream attention. By 1999 corporations were reeling from consumer pressure and it was looking like Congress was going to take some action. At that time, Dennis (more...)
