Could Roller-Coaster Tragedy Be Used Against Democrats?

Could Fatal Roller-Coaster Case Be a Touchy Issue for Democrats?
A roller-coaster accident that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy at Six Flags Over Georgia sounds like just the kind of case that Republicans might use against Democrats.
Asia Leeshawn Ferguson IV was decapitated when he climbed two fences and passed numerous warning signs, apparently in an effort to retrieve a hat.
This is exactly the kind of case that makes trial lawyers look bad. And since trial lawyers tend to be Democrats, the Grand Old Party is likely to use the case to its political advantage--showing that trial lawyers are greedy rubes who attack folks with deep pockets and don't hold people accountable for their own poor decisions.
Republicans are always looking for an opportunity to use the "tort hell" issue against Democrats, particularly in the Deep South. My guess is that GOPers are licking their fangs at the prospect of a trial lawyer filing what would appear to be a frivolous lawsuit against the folks who run Six Flags.
To make this story even more sad, Asia Leeshawn Ferguson IV sounds like a good kid from a fine family. One press report quoted Ferguson's father as saying, "We don't blame anyone." Another press account said the family planned to hire a private detective.

I live in Birmingham, Alabama, and work in higher education. I became interested in justice-related issues after experiencing gross judicial corruption in Alabama state courts. This corruption has a strong political component. The corrupt judges are all Republicans, and the attorney who filed a fraudulent lawsuit against me has strong family ties to the Alabama Republican Party, with indirect connections to national figures such as Karl Rove. In fact, a number of Republican operatives who have played a central role in the prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman (a Democrat) also have connections to my case. I am married, with no kids and two Siamese cats. I am the author of the blog Legal Schnauzer. The blog is written in honor of Murphy, our miniature schnauzer (1993-2004)who did so much to help my wife and me survive our nightmarish experience with corrupt judges. I grew up in Springfield, Missouri, and I am pretty much a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. I've lived in Birmingham for almost 30 years and have adopted the UAB Blazers as my Southern college football and basketball team to follow. Also, follow East Tennessee State basketball. An avid reader, both fiction and non-fiction. Influential writers on public affairs are Kevin Phillips, Michael Lind, Thomas Edsall, E.J. Dionne, Molly Ivins, and Scott Horton.

A good kid

I just don't think of "good kids" as the kind to ignore multiple warning signs and trespass on property that has TWO fences blocking it off. It's not like the kid suddenly spotted the cure for cancer below the coaster track and thusly put himself in harms way in an effort to save millions of lives.

He was just being a jackass teenager.

Plus, on a theme park forum that I browse, someone posted the kid's myspace. I don't want to link to it here, because that's kind of weird (though I'm sure you can search for it and find it, if you're morbidly interested), but it listed his three main interests as P*ssy, Weed, and Money. He still didn't deserve to die, but there's definitely a disconnect between the way the media describes him and the person he presented himself to be.
