There is an amazing conversation going on right now, which we would like you to participate in if you believe that we need to do better than even the "best" members of Congress we have currently, at this link

Independent Voters Resource Page: http://www.facebook.com/Independent.Voters

Please note you do NOT have to be a Facebook user to read the posts or the discussions there, watch the videos, etc. If you DO want to add to the conversation all you have to do is set up a Facebook ID for yourself, even if you use it for nothing else, and it is very easy to do and you will see a link for that at the top of the page above if you don't have one.

What we are doing on this new page is creating a hub, where people can come together and talk about what we can do to break free of the vicious cycle of swapping mean-spirited Republicans for cowardly Democrats back and forth in what has now become a vain and fruitless charade. The plan is that once this first page hits 10,000 fans (and there are nearly 1,000 already), we will start breaking out into mobilizing pages state by state and congressional district by district.

For those of you who are Greens or associated with some existing "third" party, you are invited and welcome to participate. But what we want to foster is a BASE with allegiance to NO party in particular. Then as more and more people join the conversations on these local mobilizing pages we will finally be in a position to support worthy independent candidates (who might have their own third party affiliations), with a track record of policy activism in the public interest, to emerge from that base, and for that base to rally around as an election approaches.

We bring to this initiative some amazing technology, even on top of the existing and now mature Facebook social media network with 300 million participants of their own. Our own Voices application, for sending real time messages to all your members of Congress, creating your own action pages on any issue you care about and more, is fully integrated into this new resource. And there is much more to come.

Independent Voters Resource Page: http://www.facebook.com/Independent.Voters

Our entire premise since we started doing action pages has been if people were to actually speak out that one of two things would happen. Either 1) our members of Congress would listen and we would get real policy change on the spot, or else 2) they would not listen and this would be a practical and personal demonstration that they needed to be replaced with someone else.

If the events of the last week have demonstrated nothing else it is that we have NO members of Congress we can count on to cast the deciding vote on a progressive issue. Members of the Congressional "Progressive" Caucus swore up and down they would NEVER agree to a health care bill without a strong public option. It was a matter of principle they said. And all they've done since is collapse like a house of greased cards.

And the biggest problem is that this sell out to the insurance companies health care bill is SO unpopular, and forcing it through the way they are, the Democrats are bound to lose large numbers of seats in November. Nobody is predicting that they won't lose a significant number of seats. They might even lose their majorities. Unless we have some alternate INDEPENDENT candidates with substantial support in place all those lost seats will go back to the do nothing Republicans.

That's the choice we reject. Between do nothing Republicans and afraid to do anything Democrats. And please understand we are if anything MORE interested in replacing the intransigent lock step Republicans. In some very "red" districts there may be reasonable conservatives where we can agree on various issues, and let them unseat the Republicans, and THAT would be an improvement from our standpoint.

So please come to the Facebook page, become a fan, post some comments of your own, join the discussion. Bring your ideas and your creativity. And make this new resource what you will it to be.

We will also be building "regular" web pages that will mirror the Facebook network, but again, to have full access to the power of the Facebook network's own connectivity you will need at least a Facebook ID.

It's a brave new world, we will concede that. But there are now resources in place to make possible what progressive organizers in the past could only just dream about . . . instant connectivity for mobilizing literally millions of people. That dream is a reality now, if you will make it so. We sure will.
