Love conquers everything even karma.

Mettri L

Karma has been translated as some sort of act (physical as well as mental) that must result in some sort of fruit or reaction. The idea of Karma stems from Eastern religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. It is this Eastern concept of Karma that has likely had the most play here among Western minds.

Some take Karma literally to mean that every action will have an equal corresponding reaction that will bear fruit in this life or the next. But if we accept this explanation of Karma then we must reasonably lock ourselves into a view of the world as a Karmic cycle that we can never break. Life becomes a philosopher's dream of an unbroken, predestined experience that must always be based on past actions.

Still, this view of strict determinism cannot explain advancements in consciousness and moral development.

There is, however, another way to view Karma that I believe is more accurate. Karma, a pattern of matter and energy (brainwave activity included), arises not from Karmic action that was initiated eons ago in exact fruit to previous action. But Karma is actually the fruit of our being. Thus as we develop in our consciousness or beingness, then the Karmic pattern of our life unfolds according to that development.

I do believe that if we are aware, we can see our level of consciousness or being displayed to us relatively quickly as Karmic reaction to past actions. What some experience as instant Karma is really just a matter of a person being more open, aware, and perceptive to the way patterns of energy and matter correspond to their own consciousness. They may see their level of consciousness unfold as certain thoughts or deeds and then, being highly receptive, they may notice the corresponding reactions to their level of consciousness.

So we confuse the unfolding of consciousness in matter and energy as an unbreakable Karmic pattern of fruit bearing activity that arises from similar activity. But it is the level of consciousness that is bearing fruit in every activity.

When we develop a certain level of consciousness we become more aware of the fruit of our consciousness acting in our lives and some call that instant Karma.

But what our Karma is not some act from some far off past or even from what we did yesterday. Our Karma unfolds according to our consciousness. This was true many eons ago and it is true today and tomorrow. Matter and energy unfold in a certain pattern based on our very being.

It has been said that Enlightenment frees us from our Karma or our deeds and misdeeds of our past. I do believe that is true. Not because Enlightenment magically acts to rid the results of our past deeds but because matter and energy simply correspond to consciousness. If we were automatically bound to every act then we would never achieve Enlightenment (because things would be predetermined based on past acts), and Enlightenment would have no effect on our Karma.

Quantum mechanics science has shown in experiments, like the double slit experiments (see below), that energy/matter unfold in certain ways based on observation. I believe that we can go further than that. I believe we can say that it unfolds according to the level of being the conscious observer has attained.

So we know that energy and matter has a relationship with consciousness. Our level of consciousness determines not only the way we look at things but also the way things look at us. All of this Life is interconnected in a vast web of Being in which deep joy and bliss can be attained. But it will come from our level of Love and Understanding and not from an endless round of activity.

In the end, we are not the victims of Karma but only our own ignorance. Life forms have been trapped in a web of suffering arising from a misunderstanding of Being. Once we understand the power and beauty of Being, commonly called Enlightenment, then Life will correspond to that Understanding. Thus Karma will play out in wonder and in bliss, according to that level of Enlightened consciousness.
