BICENTENNIAL SONG

Our Dark Ages began with the fall
of energy generated in the late Sixties -
in politics, in music and art,
in Civil Rights, in youth.
With a very small show of force,
Kent and Jackson State,
the U.S. government put down
the greening spirit of America,
John and Robert Kennedy,
Martin King.
No leaders left but appointees
of feudal lords of the new economocracy
forming even now
in the artificially-created recession
designed to bring the mass
of the population to its knees,
drugged on credit cards and movie stars.
Increasingly we cannot read
as teachers become no more than police
for classes of fifty when funds
for education are cut
further.
Further.
Further, by the monied elite
who control the number of jobs available,
seeing to it that they shrink
as welfare rolls expand -
to teach us a lesson.
(SUBMIT!!!)
Our votes are sterile now
as an elected(?) minority decides for us
that the status quo
is Divine Right.
