On May 11, 2009, an article
was published on Opednews.com written by a Don DeBar entitled "Gagging
Free Speech Radio". The article stated that Stephen Brown, a
local board member of radio station WBAI-FM, had used "often used
the most barbaric and racist imagery and language" with regard to
the removal of the former director of the station.
We became aware that the statements
were neither supported nor substantiated. As such, we removed the article
from the Opednews.com website. However, we understand that said
article was published on other websites and remains on those websites.
Although we have no control
over the content of other websites, Opednews.com here formally retracts
the above-mentioned article and presents this apology to Mr. Brown and
other offended WBAI individuals for its initial publication on this
site. It is absolutely not Opednews.com policy to allow vendettas
or personal attacks upon other progressive media or their personnel.
