RE: NEW STRATEGIES TO IMPEACH AND GAIN BACK OUR CONSTITUTION

MASSIVE JOINT EFFORT

Saturday, June 21, 2008

Dear Eli Pariser, Caroline Frederickson, David Swanson, Credo, True Majority, and Courage Campaign:

This letter is being posted openly to you and the public on Opednews. I am asking readers to please contact you in support of the proposals in this letter, and to post this letter all over the web, email it out, etc.

First of all, let me heartily thank you for all you are doing to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution. We as Americans, and people internationally, surely are affected in a positive way by all your hard and very motivated work. Let me also thank the ACLU for providing what I believe to be the best political education on the web. More about this later.

I have a deep concern to bring to you, deep enough that it requires writing every one of you and asking for your joint efforts.

I am asking for some new strategies from you, because signing petitions is not working. Witness the new telecom immunity “Compromise” bill which, as you know, basically does away with due process of law, grants secret and unilateral powers to Bush, and undermines the power of the Judiciary whose function is to put a “check” on government power. And at the rate we are going, without a new strategy, things are only going to get worse. It may only be a matter of time before due process for civilians is also done away with.

Let me sum it up in a nutshell: Desperate times require desperate measures.

Hello friends I have decided to take a break from political writing for a while and have disconnected my email address correlated with Opednews. If any of you send me a message to my Opednews box and I do not respond, I am not ignoring you: The message simply is not getting through to me because of my disconnected email at home. Thank you and best wishes, Kathryn Smith This quote summarizes the nature of my concerns and the content of personal experiences which stir my activism: "Necessity is the plea for every infringement on human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves". --Paul Revere, House of Commons

An important PS:

Friends, because I had a long title for this open letter, the editors abbreviated it to the name above, "An Open Letter to the Left". I appreciate the concern about the title's brevity.

I want to clarify, however, that this is not about "the left". Neither is it about partisanship or politics per se. Instead, it is about upholding, protecting and defending hte Constitution. It is about insisting that the voice of the people be heard. It is about getting bad apples out of Congress, preventing due process for civilians from disappearing, preventing an attack on Iran and WW III, and about impeachment of two men who are wanted for war crimes nationally and internationally.

How could this possibly be about "The Left"? If it isn't abogt all partisanships, then America is sunk. I have more faith in The Right than that.

Just wanted to clarify my purpose and intent. THank you all for understanding and again I, in turn, understand the reason for abbreviating and editing the title. It was just an honest oversight. Everybody makes mistakes. THank you all.

Kathryn,

Log in. Go to your articles or diaries. Click 'edit'. Change the title to your pleasure.

Follow the usual 'submit' stuff, and voila...you got a title to your liking.

It ususally makes the changes pretty quickly. That's also how you correct mistakes in the copy that you didn't catch after re-reading it a hundred times before publishing.

Herding cats

Not to throw a damper on this - I'm all for it - have been calling for the same thing for years, but we have a problem, and if you can overcome it we'd have our country back tomorrow.

Unlike Russia, or other countries that have a common language and history we are a very fragmented country, not just through language but in just about every other way too, and powers-that-be make sure we stay that way and foster hate and ignorance to keep us fighting each other rather than them. Add the massive amount of ignorance enabled by media control and you have a formidable task.

And I also suspect that some of these anti-war groups are infiltrate with those whom would try to sabotage any meaningful attempt to take our country back. But that just reminds me of a lyric from a song, "let's wage peace and see who tries to stop us"

Even among so-called progressive groups and blogs it's hard to organize a united front for want of getting past egos and direction.

Would an attack on Iran do the trick? For sure many things would change rapidly and for the worst but the whole point is to stop this from happening to begin with. A Google search for protests for July 4th shows nothing significant other than spotted protests for different causes, and hence the problem. There is a call for a General Strike for Sept 11th, but that has been called for the past two or three years and still most don't know, or if they did, didn't take part.

No has to remember, and not trying to sound negative, just facts, most Americans are in a stupor and in great denial, to think that a majority of them are as mad as those of us that actually bother to learn what's going on is in itself denial of this fact - we still constitute a small portion of people willing at this time to take a stand, and that's a sad fact.

Could we gather a million? I believe they're out there, and hopefully your call to those organizations that are already in play to band together and organize will work, but I've been advocating this for some time and again only ran into in-fighting and egos blocking its conception. Hopefully the winds have changed enough, and as you say desperate enough, that perhaps this time it will work. I certainly hope so, but I'd like to have more than just hope, I'd like to get excited about seeing it come to pass.

I  would love to march on Washington and take part in what would be one of the greatest revolutions in history. Just let me know how you plan to herd those cats.

One suggestion I do have is to join or form a "We Are Truth" movement and start taking part in peaceful civil disobedience, or any other anti-war organization and push for them to co-operate with other groups in picking a date soon to march. Plan who in your group can be at your reps offices every day, and when possible have the whole group there, call for a meeting and demand answers, make a fuss, let media know you'll be there and be civil and do nothing to provoke police action.

But this must be done now, and pushed as quickly as we can, Sept. 11th might be too soon, or too late, depending on what evil plans powers-that-be have for us, but whatever we can do, each one of us needs to put it into overdrive and do as much as we can, as soon as we can, for soon it will be too late.

How to get masses involved:

Mr M, you are right on as usual.
Yes it is my experience that there are egos *and* infiltration to push past in these organizations, having served on the board of one of them myself. You are absolutely right.

But that doesn't mean it can't be done.
That is exactly why I am posting this to the Internet. The more people write these organizations in support of this plan, the more likely they are to do it .Please do so and spread word.

Media involvement: Very simple. We become our own photojournalists, spreading word via internet postings and email.

Public involvement: The strategy would be to get letters to the editor going first. Small newspapers and college newsletter editors are most likely to print such things, so we should approach them first. When writing such letters, we help to get matters on the public radar, thus gathering support for the final cause.

NOBODY WITH TO MUCH TRUTH IT HURTS
RICH SHANOBODY WITH TO MUCH TRUTH IT HURTS

THIS WILL WORK

I AGREE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY FOR CHANGE, BUT IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN SOON, IF A MARCH GOT STARTED FROM EACH STATE, AT THE SAME TIME AND PICK UP AS MANY PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY TO DC IT COULD BECOME A NATIONAL MOVEMENT, AND THIS WOULD SENT A LOUD AND CLEAR MESSAGE TO OUR CONGRESS AND SENATE THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH. LETS GET STARTED NOW. YOU MIGHT BE VERY SURPRISED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE WAIT FOR THIS TO START. THANK YOU FOR OPENING THE DOOR TO GET OUR FREEDOMS BACK. I AM READY, WAITING AND WILLING, AS MANY PEOPLE I KNOW.
