Hello from Planet Earth, Mitt! You must be somewhere up in space, as your obvious intent to run for the Republican presidential nomination for the third time has to be spaced-out. Yet, there you were with a mean-spirited attack on President Barack Obama's memorable State of the Union address, even before the official response from your own party was made. Let's face it, Mitt -- you had to have written your nasty response even before the President made his remarks. Talk about the "cart before the horse," Mitt -- or, in your case, the cart before the Democratic donkey.
Of course, we progressives are eagerly awaiting your announcement of your third run for the presidency in 2016. Not that we believe for an instant your sudden discovery that, yes indeed, there are people in the United States who are struggling and who need a helping hand from our government. While you have started to prattle about the problem of poverty, how could anyone forget your remarks about the 47% of Americans whom you claim just want handouts. Those remarks to some key donors to your failed 2012 campaign were recorded secretly and reflect your true feelings and total lack of sympathy for the plight of so many struggling people -- people for whom you have only contempt.
The American electorate did not buy your reactionary positions in your past two presidential campaigns, Mitt, but even more than that, you are not considered trustworthy, or even credible. To take but one example, the medical care program you helped to institute while serving (incredibly) as Governor of Massachusetts is not very different from what has come to be known as Obamacare -- yet while you still boast about the gains from your Massachusetts medical initiative, you can only condemn Obamacare for having many similar provisions to your own plan. That has zero credibility and, indeed, is rather despicable, Mitt.
But, your problem really goes considerably beyond that, Mitt. To put it bluntly, far too many people just plain dislike you. You appear supercilious and superficial, rather than convincing and credible. Worst of all, you have never understood that the presidency is not the same as being CEO of a company specializing in corporate raiding. You even boasted, during your twice-failed previous presidential campaigns, that you really enjoy firing people and care nothing about their lives. Meanwhile, your track record -- or, perhaps in your case, trick record -- shows that you often fire the wrong people.
Physicist Albert Einstein has been quoted as saying that it is the height of human folly to conduct the same experiment time after time while expecting a different result. We progressives actually look forward to your third presidential run, Mitt -- go for it! Every major campaign needs some comedic relief, and Sarah Palin may not be available for 2016. The fact that you were rated higher in some polls than Rick or Huck or Rand or Chris or Mario merely shows the weakness of the entire Republican field of candidates for 2016. If you enjoy being the Best of the Worst, that is fine with us. But, please, try not to burden that upcoming campaign with all of your usual pontificating, which is already tiresome -- not to mention, meaningless.
