Idaho Rep. Vito Barbieri is a dumb little spud. Unless you live in a cave, by now you've heard the story of this anti-choice Neocon's gross misunderstanding of gross anatomy. Not since Bill O'Reilly sexually harassed a female co-worker by threatening to soap her up with a felafel has a male Neocon so missed the mark on female anatomy. (Well there was that Akin guy who said a woman's body would "shut down" a pregnancy if there was a "legitimate" rape).
It seems "tubes are tubes" to this Rapture Rightie, and in all his 63 years he's failed to learn that the vagina and throat are not physically connected (except, perhaps, in his dreams).
Raw Story has more:
The exchange (below) Between Barbieri and a Dr. Madsen, as his committee was holding a hearing on House Bill 154, which would ban health care providers from using videoconferencing to supervise an abortion performed with abortifacient medications.
"'You mention the risk of colonoscopy,' Barbieri told physician Julie Madsen. 'Can that be done by drugs?'
"'It can not be done by drugs,' Madsen replied. 'It can, however, be done remotely, where you swallow a pill, and this pill has a little camera and it makes its way through your intestines, and those images are uploaded to a doctor who's often thousands of miles away who then interprets that.'"'Can this same procedure be done in a pregnancy -- swallowing a camera and helping the doctor determine what the situation is with the child?' Barbieri asked.
"'It cannot be done in pregnancy simply because, when you swallow a pill, it would not end up in the vagina,' she answered prompting loud laughter from within the chamber."
A woman cannot swallow an object and make it appear out of her vagina. Wow. Not even David Copperfield would attempt that, and he made the Statue of Liberty disappear. Although, admittedly, not into a body orifice. I wonder if Barbieri would advise a man to swallow a condom to prevent sexually transmitted disease?
I can assure Rep. Barbieri that the vagina is not part of the digestive system. A woman is not a slot machine. I can sympathize with his confusion, however; I've entertained similar theories about the Republican central nervous system and am curious if, in fact, a good colonoscopy might locate their brains.
