Dear Readers:

Welcome to my annual newsletter of appreciation and fundraising appeal. During this holiday season of thanksgiving, there is much to be grateful for. And also much work yet to be done!  December marks the beginning of my eighth year at OpEdNews as Election Integrity Editor and a Senior Editor, and over nine years as co-founder and primary journalist for Citizens for Election Reform (CER).

I'm thrilled to have brought interviews and stories to OpEdNews readers that are not regularly or thoroughly covered by the corporate media. In fact, some of these topics are not even covered at all by other news sources. My writing gives me what's called a "helper's high". It's like what athletes experience at peak moments, only it happens more frequently and lasts longer. So, beyond doing good and making a difference, this type of solution-focused journalism also feels great!

Any day now, the collection of 600+ articles and interviews I have authored will hit 1,000,000 page views. That means many OEN readers are becoming more familiar with these essential issues --- That's good news!

OEN earned the 2013 Pillar Award for Community Activism and Journalism at the National Whistleblowers Conference because we have become the go-to place for whistleblowing as well as for election integrity coverage.

We live in tumultuous times. OpEdNews, CER and I continue to cover the heavy topics as well as the many equally important, uplifting and inspirational stories that are too often overlooked.  This is an essential collaboration: the much appreciated support I've received ensures that I can continue to offer this vital coverage. And my supporters get the satisfaction of knowing that they are a key part in making this happen.

As we embark on another year of focus on election integrity, whistleblowing, and inspiration,  I am thankful for every vote of confidence in my work that I receive, as well as the support I have received in the past.

If you would like to support my work, tax-deductible donations may be sent directly to the Columbus Institute for Contemporary Journalism (CICJ), Please note: you must specify CER as the recipient: 1021 E. Broad St., Columbus OH 43205.  Donations may be made at the CICJ online store [scroll down to CER] or send donations directly to: Citizens for Election Reform, PO Box 107, Evanston, IL 60201-5945. ( CER can provide you with a tax deduction because Columbus Institute for Contemporary Journalism [CICJ], a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is our fiscal agent.)

Best wishes to you and yours for a healthy, peaceful, prosperous and more democratic 2014,

Joan Brunwasser, Election Integrity Editor, Senior Editor/Writer, OpEdNews

Roger Shuler, an embattled colleague in Alabama, wrote earlier this year: "For my money, Joan Brunwasser of OpEdNews is one of the most astute interviewers in the world of progressive online news"  Anyone who cares about justice--from any point on the political spectrum--would be wise to check out Joan's work."

Joan Brunwasser is a co-founder of Citizens for Election Reform (CER) which since 2005 existed for the sole purpose of raising the public awareness of the critical need for election reform. Our goal: to restore fair, accurate, transparent, secure elections where votes are cast in private and counted in public. Because the problems with electronic (computerized) voting systems include a lack of (more...)
