I am most concerned with people who know the Lord getting caught up in and becoming part of this movement of hype and false hope.

WHAT HYPE AND FALSE HOPE!!! YOU HAVENT ADDRESSED ANY OF IT YET!!

My friend, the only true hope is Jesus.  The only true answers are found in the Word of God.  God gave us in black and white in the Bible, specifically how to deal with all of the issues in our lives and in this world.

I AGREE, ALTHOUGH THE USAGE OF “BLACK AND WHITE” SOUNDS A BIT LIKE RACE BAITING.

More troubling than anything is that Obama won't even speak in specifics, only flowery platitudes.  Once you tear away the hype, the smoke and mirrors, all you are left with is empty rhetoric that inspires people and makes them feel good, but leads them nowhere.

YOU MEAN LIKE THIS ARTICLE? ONLY YOUR EMPTY RHETORIC LEADS PEOPLE TO HATE AND FEAR. BY THE WAY, HERE ARE THE SPECIFICS FROM OBAMA:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

OOPS BILL, HOW EMBARRASSING FOR YOU. SEEMS THAT OBAMA HAS AN ENTIRE BLUEPRINT FOR CHANGE. TRY PEDDLING YOUR LIES AND HATE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

However, it is empty since it doesn't give them any real direction.  Hope is the greatest gift one person can give to another, however, if that hope is in anything else but the Lord and His Word it is false hope.

THEN ARENT YOU ADVOCATING TO VOTE FOR NO ONE?

What we do know about B. Hussein Obama is that he supports the slaughtering of innocent babies and trying to redefine God's Holy Institution of Marriage to include those who choose to engage in deviant forms of sex.  Both positions clearly in rebellion to the Lord and to the Bible.  Obama, like each follower of Christ has to heed the words of Jesus and decide which master he is going to serve.  You can only serve one.  I am challenging you today to decide who YOU are going to follow, B. Hussein Obama, the most recent false messiah, or Jesus Christ, the true Messiah!!!

WOW, APPARENTLY BILL KELLER HAS READ THE VERSE ABOUT SERVING TWO MASTERS, HE JUST APPARENTLY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND HOW TO INTERPRET IT. THIS VERSE OF COURSE DEALS WITH THE EVILS OF MONEY AND GREED. THIS IS THE THIRD PURPOSEFUL MISUSE OF SCRIPTURE IN THIS VILE HITPIECE DISGUISED AS A DEVOTIONAL. KELLER SPENT THE ENTIRE ARTICLE SETTING UP HIS STRAWMAN, THAT OBAMA IS IN OPPOSITION TO CHRIST AND IN HIS CONCLUSION, HE KNOCKS THE STRAWMAN DOWN BY CHALLENGING HIS READERS TO CHOOSE BETWEEN OBAMA AND CHRIST. BUT JESUS IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IS HE? SO WHAT IS KELLER REALLY OFFERING HERE?  HE IS SAYING THAT IF YOU CHOOSE TO VOTE FOR OBAMA, YOU ARE VOTING AGAINST CHRIST. HE IS TRYING TO GUILT YOU INTO VOTING FOR HIS PREFERRED CANDIDATE, JOHN MCCAIN.

Conclusion – let me start by saying this is not a devotional. It is a smear job and hit-piece on Barack Obama. It is designed to prey on the beliefs of Christians, to guilt them into voting for another republican, pro-war, pro-poverty president. It USES Jesus Christ and that is possibly its greatest sin. I want to say a word here about abortion, which is the only coherent point that Keller actually made. His stance on Obama’s position on gay marriage was a lie. Keller could have just said, “don’t vote for Obama because he is pro-choice” and be done with it. Instead he wrapped a load of untruths and unchristian opinions around the only truth he had; which is that Obama is pro-choice. I understand that a lot of Christians have bought the wedge issues over the past ten years and do not think that they can vote for a pro-choice candidate. While I can understand that, you have to look at the overall candidate you are voting for. Jesus said by their fruit we will know the wolves in sheep’s clothing; we will know the false prophets Bill Keller so inadequately spoke of. In 2000 we had such a candidate in George Bush. He said all the right things to Christians. He said Jesus was his favorite philosopher and ran on the wedge issues. Once in power he started two wars of choice and aggression. There are hundreds of thousands of people dead because of these wars; so much for being pro-life. I hate to break this to my Christian brethren but their lives mattered to God too. President Bush also enacted several tax cuts which over 95% of the monies went to the wealthiest people in this country. The result has been a slow elimination of the middle class. More and more people are in the working poor. There are thousands of verses in the Bible and the number one topic is not saving the unborn; it is with saving the lost. It is about helping the neediest in society. We have lost that in modern Christianity as the forces on the religious right have turned our Prince of Peace into a pro-war, pro-poverty and decidedly only pro-America Christ. That is simply put, heresy. We are not even ashamed of it anymore. Bill Keller bragged about being against world hunger in this “devotional”!! He slammed Obama for wanting to try and solve world hunger and his principle disagreement was about money. He misused, on purpose, three scriptures to achieve his political agenda. In the end, all he had was a handful of lies and the fact that Obama is indeed pro-choice. Too many Christians forget that Christianity is not supposed to be a force concept. Jesus did not say go out into all the nations and force everyone to be Christian. We do not live in a theocracy. People still have free will, given to them by God. It seems that well-intended Christians have decided that they want to take that free will away in the name of Christ. You can pull that lever this November for the pro-life candidate and get four more years of war; heck McCain has said 100 more years in Iraq is fine by him and joked about bombing Iran. Does it sound like human life is important to him??? You can vote pro-life and see four more years of impoverishing this nation. More torture and illegal spying. More destruction of the environment and erosion of our education system. The point is that you are voting for more than pro-life.

What I am saying is do not fall for the fire and brimstone nonsense from hypocritical hate mongers such as Bill Keller. He does not speak for Christ; he speaks for a political party. Jesus Christ did not preach hate. He did not preach intolerance. He did not preach fear. He did not lie. He did not need to. People like Bill Keller is why it is so difficult to convince the world that Jesus is the way the truth and the life. Because those that would claim the mantle of Christian leadership are nothing but political shills pushing the hate of man instead of the love of God.

God bless.

Couple of points

First, sorry about the CAPS. I use them solely to differentiate between my comments and Bill Keller's. When i use !!! or ??? that is where i denote my disbelief or upset.

Secondly, sorry it is six pages long but this alleged devotional by Keller was 6 pages long and emailed to probably hundreds of thousands of people. It was important to respond paragraph by paragraph.

Thanks.

For once, I agree

I don't support hardly any of Barack Obama's positions; however, I will always speak out against people who pull what Bill Keller is pulling here. This is a despicable smear. More to the point: I refuse to endorse the notion of somebody not being a true Christian simply because he is a liberal, or because he is a conservative, or anything else about someone's political policies. Few things frost me more than this.

Bill Keller AND His Devotional

Bill Keller, in Biblical terms, is a blasphemer. And in Christian circles, that "ain't" good. In fact, The New Testament (Dispensation,) blaspheming is an unforgivable sin, unlike abortion, and ... a sure "free pass to hell." So, in literal terms, you can asure Bill, that he's going to hell! Not bad for a devotional, I would say. A bit hot, ... maybe!

Thanks for notifying me about this. If I don't have it already, ... I'll get it.

The real point of this

is that we are a diverse group and, as such, there are extremists on both ends. Damn few believe this stuff, and even fewer of those actualy vote I'd surmise.

Reports of such as this will multiply as the campaign continues but exactly how many votes will be changed by tactics as these is quite probably very few indeed. Web sites like WorldNetDaily and Freerepublic.com are not exactly inhabited by open minded folks and their opinions and distortions should be ignored or, if they ever find their way into mainstream media,  challenged.

By reporting on crackpots and kooks one may set up his favored candidate as a martyr worthy of your sympathy vote. I'll pass on stuff like that and continue to vote based upon how closely the candidate mirrors my own vision for this nation.

well

You do that. i do what is right. If they had unfairly attacked McCain i would stand up for him. WND has already run this. That is the point. Now there is a place on the Net that people can easily link to debunk this tripe every time it comes up, gets published, or emailed.

Be well.

Thanks

I am so very, very tired of these hate mongers spewing their demands upon us all.  No, I do not 'tune in' to any of their broadcasts, nor do I receive any of their various mailings.  I just do not want to hear any of their lies.  All they are interested in is the amount of money their collect from their 'followers'.    I also have nothing against anyone who believes in whatever religion or non-religion that fits their needs.  What I am having a real problem with is the fact that we are supposed to believe that only a 'christian' (whatever that means) is okay to have in our government.  This has happened so insidiously in this country and it is scary as hell.  I don't care of someone worships a stone in the river, can this person be trusted to carry out protecting and honoring the Constitution of this country!  When did that become last on the list.

Our Current President?

Anthony:

Interesting article. It is hard to read all caps without feeling like someone is shouting at me, but I understand why you wrote this way. However, unfortunately, caps or not, Bill Clinton is not our current president as you stated on pg. 1.

Best,

Fast Track to Hell

In my persuasion Bush, Keller and McCain would suffer a minimum million years in hell on torture, murder and genocide charges. Just for his Waco exploits Clinton could do similar time. The sentence for adultry is one year each count.

I am not sure if these punishments hold for Christians.

When I get to hell I'll send you a post on the subject.
