To reflect the changing (Commulist) threat environment, the Parties of NATO agreed to update and modify the NATO Treaty (Article V) as follows:

The Parties of NATO agreed that "any attack", be it armed "or" subverted by any non-military means from within/without, including cyber, against one or more of them in Europe and/or North America shall be considered an attack against them all. Consequently they agree that, if such an attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence will assist the Party or Parties being attacked, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of any or all as the case may be; armed force, monetary policy, cyber, trade penalties, sanctions and/or TBD measures against the aggressor nation/entity, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization members.

2.    Kiev Immediately and Unilaterally "Divorce Eastern Ukraine"(a cut its losses approach before it loses everything) - NATO immediately tell the Kiev government to "Divorce Eastern Ukraine" - Turn the Tables on Russian OVA by using it to defeat itself   - The battle line for NATO is neither the Crimea nor East Ukraine (who don't like the US/West). Wake up Kerry. It is and instead should be western Ukraine (who do like the West), so stop the nonsense and start talking THE line in the sand as western Ukraine and IMMEDIATELY play the "Crimea referendum game", less referendum and jump right to "divorce" - give the eastern Ukrainians what they want, and which will too take the wind out of Putin's grand aggression plan. Immediately (this Monday) the government in Kiev by Executive Order split the country east and west per the attached ethnic map, before the Russians absorb it all, and the chance for a sovereign "West Ukraine" then becomes as likely as the sun rising in the west.

3.    Accelerate US LNG export infrastructure development to be ready to deliver substantive supplies to Europe in 6 months (or sooner), not 3 years, and paid for by European NATO countries

4.    Expose China's position -- NATO force China to publicly condone or denounce Russia. It is very content quietly sitting in the bleachers, near the stadium exit, with a hot dog and a beer watching game 7 of the World Series. Get them on the field and pick a team.

5.    NATO fast track inclusion of soon to be (if strategy above employed to forget eastern Ukraine and push Kiev to do a referendum to split the country East and West) "West" Ukraine (and Belarus once Lukashenko comes knocking on NATO's door, very soon). Do the paperwork NOW.

Conclusion:

The Crimea acquisition underscores clear intent on the part of President Putin to revitalize and reconstitute the Soviet Union, in a much more potent and dangerous way than its first generation. It's his first, not last move, by any stretch. Not a reaction (to trumped up nonsense) but rather "by design". That means NATO--EAST is at huge risk. The current NATO Treaty protocol in place to defend NATO-EAST is out of date, thereby leaving NATO-EAST exposed and vulnerable, and NATO unable to respond to the subversive attack. A complete due diligence review, assessment and rewrite of the NATO Treaty to reflect this new threat/attack is therefore in order. Crimea and at least East Ukraine are gone. Stop the bleeding and aggression there and quickly NATO-ize "West" Ukraine and Belarus.

If NATO does not act and do so aggressively, deliberately and decisively, these newbie members of NATO will soon be singing the Soviet Union national anthem - again. With a Commulist and therefore "sustainable" Soviet ReUnion, once these entities leave, there will be no hope to ever capture them again, i.e. no future NATO re-unions.
