However, although water vapor is indeed the dominant greenhouse gas, it is also the dominant feedback agent. And, as CO2 emissions make the temperature go up, evaporation increases, putting more water vapor in the atmosphere, which further increases the temperature. The water-vapor feedback doubles the warming that would by caused by rising CO2 alone. Water vapor largely explains, therefore, why Earth's climate is so sensitive to CO2 increases.
9. The IPCC Is Alarmist: It was formed, as Roy Spencer has pointed out, "to build the scientific case for humanity being the primary cause of global warming. Such a goal is fundamentally unscientific, as it is hostile to alternative hypotheses for the causes of climate change."
However, the IPCC predictions, as numerous studies have documented, have underestimated, rather than overestimated, climate changes due to the rise of CO2. For example, sea-level rise and Arctic sea-ice melting have been greater than the IPCC had predicted.
10. Rather than Melting, Glaciers in Alaska, Canada, New Zealand, Greenland, and Norway Are Growing.
However, although a few glaciers have been growing, an examination of long-term trends shows that 90 percent of the glaciers worldwide have been shrinking.
11. The Ice of Much of Antarctica Is Expanding: This fact contradicts the IPCC claim that the polar ice caps are melting.
However, as discussed in Chapter 5, whereas Antarctica is gaining sea ice, the land ice is declining at an accelerating rate.
