A few of Bush's executive orders would probably be passed over when considering the fact that Obama has agreed to continue Bush's policy of faith-based initiatives and "war on terror" in Afghanistan. When considering Obama's FISA compromise, it's also possible those concerning intelligence gathering might be left alone also.
Obama has provided the model for Democrats in this election season by choosing political expediency over principled politics.
Political expediency has made impeachment unimportant. If political expediency has already had such an effect, what will political expediency do to the future of this nation’s wrecked system of checks and balances?
Right now, we are hearing from leaders that the election is nearing and there might not be enough time to hold Bush accountable for crimes. Some even ask us, “What crimes?”
What’s stopping Obama and Democrats from telling us in January that we need to move on from the failed presidency of George W. Bush? What makes us think an Obama administration won’t use the same reasoning used to stop impeachment when it comes to the need to repeal or overturn executive orders that threaten American civil liberties?
Whose to say that Obama will not give a speech that tells us reviewing executive orders would divide a Congress that needs to move forward on issues that would improve the state of the middle class in America?
This news that Obama will take a look at Bush’s abuse of Executive Power is only indicative of one thing: the Rule of Law is becoming more and more important to Americans each and every day that this Bush Regime’s reign of terror over the world continues.
With Democrats the enablers, Republicans the servants, and Obama and McCain tonight’s dinner-and-a-movie, the interests in government are noticing that Americans want their leaders to adhere to certain moral values and principles that past leaders have never been required to adhere to---or asked to adhere to for that matter.
What was it that Thomas Jefferson said?
“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”
Obviously, there are many executive orders that need “review.” The people of this country should demand Obama make a promise to examine them if elected. But, if this is the first time Obama has thought there is a need to examine Bush’s executive orders, Americans may find themselves worried about a future under an Obama Administration that might very well enjoy having the powers Bush has claimed unconstitutionally and unnecessarily.
