This was preceded by unnecessary and expensive wars, the deliberate hollowing out of the manufacturing base. And, by a general rise in prices-including oil-as wages declined while the labor pool was augmented by rampant illegal immigration.

Policies enacted or encouraged during the reign of the "Imperial President" helped speed the concentration of wealth in the upper class. The consumer economy is reeling and staggering. The Jones can't keep up with themselves any more.

Now there's a "credit crisis." Recently the Dow stock index fell by 777 points (29 Sep 03). As bad as that was, it was less than half the stock market drop, percentage wise, of the collapse of 1929 that led to the Great Depression. And, percentage wise, it was not even a third of the decline that happened in October 1987. In fact, it was only the 17th largest decline, again percentage wise, of the Dow.

Conclusion
The U.S. economy is declining-again. There are many admirable qualities among U.S. citizens but, in general, common sense and courage are not among them.

The U.S. culture promotes instant gratification among its people. They have little patience or staying power (although the saying "Stay the course!" is popular-as long as some one else is doing the "staying"). They are prone to be religious zealots, seemingly more interested in the next life than this one while being materialistic, fascinated with celebrity, fashion, minding others' business and practicing self-indulgence.

They will gladly accept going thousands of miles and using huge sums of money to blow up and kill foreigners --and then passing out medical help, candy and toys to orphans. Yes, we know there are vicious people in the world that, as the expression from the Southern region of the U.S. goes, "need killin'." United Statesians, however, rather passively accept financial and political exploitation-if done by their oligarchy and plutocracy. If they're thrown enough cheap consumer goods crumbs and given enough soothing games, illusions and speeches.

They can be defeated by any one who resists them long enough while periodically causing casualties. And, refuses to live the invaders' life style or adopt their philosophy. To use U.S. sports terminology, don't go for the "quick knock out" or "throw the bomb." Just "grind it out" and "go the distance."

The coming global depression may give the U.S. a fatal illness. The U.S. empire values destroying others more than dealing with its own domestic issues. The greatest and most dangerous enemy of "Americans" in the land of the spree and the home of the whee! is America Inc.

The U.S. is now like the decadent aristocrat whose assets are shrinking while their credit is gone but their cravings are not. The empire will be especially dangerous in the near future. It will make the entire world suffer as its prestige and economy dwindle by using its frustrated military power.

This nation's major "problem" is the decadent and piratical overlords-the greedy and inept corporations and "financial services," corrupt politicians, charlatan preachers, and the sleazy celebrities "famous for being famous" and over paid athletes it admires and wishes to be. Those--and they themselves--are their worst enemies. Buy! Consume (conspicuously)! Charge (it)!

Some flawed customs, corporations and institutions may be "too big to fail" but no faltering empire ever has been. Especially one that, to paraphrase "the Good Book," can't find the mote in its own eye.

Postscript
The influential, arch conservative, syndicated columnist George F. Will wrote this about Sen. John McCain: ". . . One presidential candidate is behaving like a flustered rookie playing in a league too high. It is not Barack Obama."

This is that column's last paragraph:

It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?

It is not necessary that al Qaeda take any action about the U.S. or its impending election. That attention and those resources can be better used. Let them come to us. A nation that approved attacking a country it should have known had nothing to do with the events of 9/11 can't be expected to choose the best possible person to be its leader.

Besides, any president will be severely hampered by the excesses and damage the Bush administration has created. Trust me; the "American Sheeple" will make the wrong choice. I have faith in them. The Great Satan is just a vicious Bumbling Buffoon.
