“Now it falls to us. And I need you to make it happen. If you want the next four years looking just like the last eight, then I am not your candidate. But if you want real change, if you want an economy that rewards work, and that works for Main Street and Wall Street; if you want tax relief for the middle class and millions of new jobs; if you want health care you can afford and education so that our kids can compete; then I ask you to knock on some doors, and make some calls, and talk to your neighbors.”
We Americans do not want a compromise. A compromise will not work; it's unacceptable.
We do not want to seek common ground with fascists, corporatists, Wall Street elitists, the ruling class, or however you want to describe that which has been waging class war against the people with the support of George W. Bush since 2000 and with the support of Bill Clinton during his presidency and with the support of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush during their presidencies.
We do not want you to help us reconcile our disgust with Bush’s trampling of the rule of law so that we can support FISA compromises.
We do not want you to help us reconcile our disgust with oil companies and the Republican bullies in Congress who successfully managed to get Pelosi and her wing of the Democratic Party to bend to their demands that corporations be able to engage in offshore drilling.
We do not want you to find a happy medium between bailing out corporate giants who operate like gamblers at a casino and engaging in trust-busting so that when Wall Street wants to play games we do not have to fear the onslaught of a Great Depression.
I’m all for “honest talk” and “real solutions”, but you have yet to offer either. The American people are waiting. But we won’t wait for long.
November is just weeks away. If you haven’t staked out a position that seriously differentiates yourself from McCain and his clan who believe we are “a nation of whiners”, the American people will be deeply disappointed.
