Thanks. Amy Goodman focused on this in her column

Hypocritical Oath: Psychologists and Torture

The upcoming APA Annual Convention, taking place Aug. 17- 20, promises to be hotly contested. An unknown number of members are withholding dues. Some have quit. Physicians for Human Rights’ Rubenstein summed up:

“Even the army surgeon general’s report ... said it was the role of psychologists to tell interrogators when to increase the pressure, how to exploit vulnerabilities. So I think we really do have to end this as a nation, not just as professional associations. ... We’re talking about ... ending complicity in torture by a profession that has an enormous amount to contribute to the good of humanity and should not be involved in the destruction of people.”

Yes, Amy's column was great!

There is going to be an abundance of debate, and demonstration, at the APA Convention this August 17-20 in San Francisco. There will be a 16 hour Miniconvention discussing the issue, with both sides represented on each panel. I am on one of the 8 panels.

There will also be a demonstration on Saturday, August 18 at 12:00. Again, I am among the planned speakers. This demonstration is not just for psychologists, but for all concerned citizen. So Bay Area OpEdNews folks, put August 20 on your calendar now and join us.

Thank you for the work you have done

getting this to DN!, other independent media and traditional media. I am seeing this issue raised in many places.

It is very disturbing to see the ideology championed by Bush showing up in professional organizations such as APA on top of the foxes in the henhouse at Consumer Protection, USDA, Surgeon General's Office, etc. Virtually every major organization involved with policy in our society is now headed by a loyal Bushie.

It's by design, of course. Sometimes I  am worried we have reached the point of no return. Other times, when I see people like you fighting for ethics, truth and transparency, I am encouraged. :-)
