BEWARE THE PSYCHOPATH, MY SON...

Tell A Friend

Today, thanks to new information technologies, we are on the brink of unmasking the psychopaths and building a civilization of, by and for the healthy human being – a civilization without war, a civilization based on truth, a civilization in which the saintly few rather than the diabolical few would gravitate to positions of power.

We already have the knowledge necessary to diagnose psychopathic personalities and keep them out of power. We have the knowledge necessary to dismantle the institutions in which psychopaths especially flourish – militaries, intelligence agencies, large corporations, and secret societies. We simply need to disseminate this knowledge, and the will to use it, as widely and as quickly as possible.

Until the knowledge and awareness of pathological human beings is given the attention it deserves and becomes part of the general knowledge of all human beings, there is no way that things can be changed in any way that is effective and long-lasting. If half the people agitating for truth or stopping the war or saving the earth would focus their efforts, time and money on exposing psychopathy, we might get somewhere.

One might ask if the weak point of our society has been our tolerance of psychopathic behavior? Our disbelief that someone could seem like an intelligent leader and still be acting deceptively on their own behalf without conscience? Or is it merely our ignorance?

If the general voting public is not aware that there exists a category of people we sometimes perceive as almost human, who look like us, who work with us, who are found in every race, every culture, speaking every language, but who are lacking conscience, how can the general public take care to block them from taking over the hierarchies?

General ignorance of psychopathology may prove to be the downfall of civilization. We stand by like grazing sheep as political / corporate elites throw armies of our innocent sons and daughters against fabricated enemies as a way of generating trillions in profits, vying against each other for pathological hegemony.

Nearly everyone who has been part of an organization working for social change has probably seen the same dynamic play out: The good and sincere work of many can be destroyed by the actions of one person. That doesn't bode well for bringing some sort of justice to the planet! In fact, if psychopaths dominate political hierarchies, is it any wonder that peaceful demonstrations have zero impact on the outcome of political decisions?

Perhaps it is time to choose something other than massive, distant hierarchies as a way of governing ourselves?

Only when the 75% of humanity with a healthy conscience come to understand that we have a natural predator, a group of people who live amongst us, viewing us as powerless victims to be freely fed upon for achieving their inhuman ends, only then will we take the fierce and immediate actions needed to defend what is preciously human.

Psychological deviants have to be removed from any position of power over people of conscience, period.

People must be made aware that such individuals exist and must learn how to spot them and their manipulations. The hard part is that one must also struggle against those tendencies to mercy and kindness in oneself in order not to become prey.

The real problem is that the knowledge of psychopathy and how psychopaths rule the world has been effectively hidden. People do not have the adequate, nuanced knowledge they need to really make a change from the bottom up. Again and again, throughout history it has been meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

If there is any work that is deserving of full time efforts and devotion for the sake of helping humanity in this present dark time, it is the study of psychopathy and the propagation of this information as far and wide and fast as possible.

There are only two things that can bring a psychopath under submission:

  1. A bigger psychopath.
  2. The non-violent, absolute refusal to submit to psychopathic controls no matter the consequences (non-violent noncompliance).

Let us choose path 2! If individuals simply sat down and refused to lift a hand to further one single aim of the psychopathic agenda, if people refused to pay taxes, if soldiers refused to fight, if government workers and corporate drones and prison guards refused to go to work, if doctors refused to treat psychopathic elites and their families, the whole system would grind to a screeching halt.

True change happens in the moment that a person becomes aware of psychopathy in all its chilling details. From this new awareness, the world looks very different, and entirely new actions can be taken. Distinguishing between human and psychopathic qualities begins the foundation of responsibility upon which we can create sustainable culture.

I agree change is necessary

Our whole system is built on violence.  But a change must be planned and staged.  If we all stop supporting the system we will all starve before we reach that sane new world you speak of.  Also be careful as non violence is not always a workable defence.  We must be sometimes prepared to stand up to psychopaths and engage in attitude adjustment, many are not stupid and will adjust to the new reality if the jig is up.

Human and reptile brain

Citing the book "The Edison Gene," there is a chemical that pares about half of our brain's connections while in the womb, and another half when we are born.  Wheither it will be pared from the reptile part are the human part is deturmined by how harsh the environment is.  I have a feeling that Mr Callahan might be confusing pathology with predominately reptile brain.

By the way, in my opiinion Mr Callahan hit it out of the park with this article, it was informative, origional, provocative, and enlightening.  Hope he is wrong about that one in twenty of the population are psychopaths.

One last thing: if Mr Callahan is correct, and psychopaths as a group are self-aware and coherent, then he could be in danger because of his efforts to unmask them.

Thank god for this article and your insights, Clinton!

Hello Clinton

Phew. At last. Someone who recognizes the fact that it is sociopathy we are dealing with. And that is why we get deaf ears turned to us. It's just exasperating to see leaders of political grassroots groups trying---yet again----to deal sanely with an insane person, namely our President (and VP and their cohorts). If we all spread this article around to grassroots leaders----the ACLU, Moveon.org, True Majority, Working Assets/Credo, etc....then maybe we will get somewhere. That is, if those grassroots leaders are smart enough to listen. Maybe once they get it that abnormal psychology is just so blaringly obviously at work, then they will stop barking up a dead tree.

Please let's forward this article to every grassroots organization we can think of! PLEASE!!! It could be the most important thing we all ever do. And please forward it as an email. Thank you all!!!

People devoted to force and fraud can be spotted...

if you look for them.  They are often unable to relate to reasonable facts and ideas as well as emotions.   Everything is always provisional and hypothetical.  Quick judgements are probably psychopathic as well.

Sociopathy/Psychopathy

Thank you Mr. Callahan.

I have known for years that Bush, Cheney, and their friends are psychopaths. Of the books you have mentioned, I have only read Martha Stout's book. It is frightening enough if her numbers (4% sociopaths) are correct. My knowledge of sociopaths comes from knowing several personally. The reality is that most of us, using the 1 in 25 numbers, know at least one sociopath. If we don't know any psychopaths, perhaps we're the one.

It never occurred to me that civilizations have been founded by psychopaths. I had only a small piece of the picture. What I am aware of is that people who feel personal power do not seek positions of power. Conversely, psychopaths, while using their "talents" to manipulate others and get their way, actually do not feel powerful.

This is the reason that, with 300 million people in this country, we cannot get wonderful human beings to run for public office. Wonderful human beings do not feel a need to be in positions of power.

This is why, as you have said, the scum rises to the top rather than the cream. This is why the leaders of civilization have been abusers of power. The problem for someone like Bush is that he never feels powerful regardless of the position of power he holds. Because of that, he must continually up the anti by taking actioins that express his power. But it will never work and it never works for any individuals who do not feel powerful.

I agree that this is one of the most important things that need to be addressed at this time. I keep hoping that a bunch of professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists) will get together and do some kind of petition or make a statement. We make our president take a physical once a year, but any psychotic can become president (apparently) and no one seems to notice.

Thank you again for bringing up this desperately important issue.

Psychopathy and the genomic revolution

First, isn't mutually assurred destruction (MAD) psychopathic?

Second, I am going to write a paper on the conjection of the figures you cited on psychopathy, and the dark side of the genomic revolution.

http://www.fas.org/irp/cia/product/bw1103.pdf

"Richard Danzig, a former Navy secretary and now a biowarfare consultant to the Pentagon, said that while there are 1,000 to 10,000 "weaponeers" worldwide with experience working on biological arms, there are more than 1 million and perhaps many millions of "broadly skilled" scientists who, while lacking training in that narrow field, could construct bioweapons. "It seems likely that, over a period between a few months and a few years, broadly skilled individuals equipped with modest laboratory equipment can develop biological weapons. Only a thin wall of terrorist ignorance and inexperience now protects us.""  --Washington Post, Dec. 29, 2004

Furthermore, the article by Mr Callahan predicted that psychopaths would be over represented in such careers.

"The main thing that stands between the human species and the creation of a supervirus is a sense of responsibility among individual biologists." -The Demon in the Freeze, page 227

""It's not rocket science to generate these agents and disseminate them," --Dr. Charles Bailey, executive director of the National Center for Biodefense at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
