Politicians want to divide voters by issues like abortion, the war, gun control, race, class/ economic, sex, etc. They seek the woman's vote, the Hispanic vote, etc., etc. Politicians are constantly trying to divide us, make us compete over jobs & scarce resources & yet we have more in common than what is different about us. And it is when we build on what we have in common that we can move forward, but as long as we remain divided we are held in check, we are held back & cannot move forward, which is where we find ourselves today.
The Republican & Democratic parties have little to point to in the ways of achievement. They sustain themselves primarily with partisan rancor & by titillating their ideological bases with wedge issues, being beholden to corporate & special interest, trying to cloak their contempt for the popular will & the public good, & bereft of a vision for our nation's future- looking only to their next elections.
