Do your own research. Google ‘Peak Oil’, the information is out there and it is credible.

There is no solution to peak oil whilst continuing on our insane passion for growth and industrialization. Nothing can replace oil - it will run out, and soon. With dire consequences for this way of life, riding along in our cars, using electricity for all our toys and appliances, from central power plants like there is no tomorrow. And there are an unbelievable number of things that are manufactured from oil – from pharmaceuticals to plastic. If you Google ‘things made from oil’ you will find whole pages listing things which you would never have thought of.

Oh and the article I read - and it is long and thorough with many charts, references - also considered Nuclear, and guess what, uranium is finite too, and there is a lot less of it than coal - never mind about the problem of nuclear waste, still not solved, regardless of what they might tell you. Where does all the Depleted Uranium come from? Nuclear power stations, and apparently there are tons of it with no use, until some bright spark came up with using it in bombs and shells and armour on tanks.

So unless somebody comes up with a power system that can be portable enough to fit into a car, cheap enough to rival the oil ratio costs to power, then this civilization based on cheap oil and the car, as it currently is, will have to change. The age of the ‘commuter’ is doomed.

All alternative energy sources (in the article) have been considered, from wind, solar, geothermal, coal liquefaction, tidal, estuary, nuclear, hydrogen cars, hybrids, oil from plants, etc. and none have the cost to power ratio of oil, and implementing some of the infrastructure to bring them on line should have been started years ago. A tank of gas in equivalent battery power would require several tons of batteries. A hydrogen fuel cell will only last about a year, and there is no infrastructure like gas stations to fill up widely available.

It is already too late.

The trouble is, EVERY government, democracy or dictatorship, is sleepwalking into a very bleak future. Either they know all about it behind closed doors and have some kind of plan, or they have a plan that does not include you and me, the John Doe’s, the man in the street and his wife and kids.

That there is a plan by some few or many is self evident to me; nothing else fits all the available facts.

I’m not able to give links, I don’t know how.
