3. The 5,000 missing emails are perhaps a red herring, to fool the public, so that they think that the Republicans and the Whitehouse are the ‘bad guys’, like the 18 missing minutes of tape.

4. The Democrats sure look to me to be guilty of something when they do not act in the way that they were voted in for, i.e. to end the war in Iraq, to bring the troops home and to crack down on corruption.

Have they done any of that? These hearings that Senator Waxman et al. have been holding, and issuing subpoenas on, have they really done anything substantial? Have they enforced any of those subpoenas on Ms. Rice or Juliet Myers and others? I can only think of one and that is the Libby trial, and look how that ended.

Have they de-funded the war, which they can by not bringing any funding bills to the floor of the house?

The feeble attempts to set a deadline to bring the troops home, whilst still funding it, knowing that Bush will veto it, as he has said he would, is not only feeble but contributes to the illusion of two party politics which is more like the dog and pony show.

And as for cracking down on corruption, I have read, from my distance shore, that there are more ‘earmarks’ now that when the republicans ran the show.

Do they really think that the people will never catch on?

Do they think that they will get away with it forever?

Do they think that we are all a bunch of TV goggling, beer swilling, hamburger eating, overweight, uneducated, not interested in politics, fools and idiots?

I think you know the answer…

A well traveled and slightly worse for wear 72 year old Englishman; widower, several children and grandchildren and a penchant for wondering 'what is the hidden agenda' in almost everything I read. A keen interest in American culture (an oxymoron?) (JOKE!) and politics and an international world view, except where I haven't got first hand experience of the parts of the world I have not visited. Editor of some books about the Qur'an and Islam. Teacher of English in little known countries like Mauritania, Istanbul, Turkey and Morocco.
