"I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breeches, and intentional breeches of the president's authority," he said.
Reserving impeachment for “grave breeches” and “intentional breeches” would be reasonable except for the fact that these breeches have occurred and much evidence exists to show that breeches have taken place. Obama doesn’t seem to be working too hard to bring those breeches to the light.
Nothing reveals the fact that Obama is not a policeman on the beat more than Dennis Loo's exchange with Obama, which I encourage you to read and commit to memory.
While Senator Obama has no bearing on whether or not impeachment hearings get started in the House (and as Kucinich added on Rob Kall’s radio show, he should not say whether or not he believes the president should be impeached or not because if proceedings go to the Senate he would be a juror), Democratic presidential candidate Obama has a bearing because he can, with remarks like that to questions on impeachment, lower people’s sights and give them reason to abandon moral principles our nation was founded upon.
It is simply unacceptable for a person who once taught Constitutional law to not fully understand that now is the time to proceed with impeachment hearings. But then again, this is a man who went and gave one of the most pro-AIPAC speeches in the history of this nation a day after securing the Democratic Party’s nomination.
So, the preservation of this country now becomes the responsibility of the people. The small percentage of Americans alert to the principles we were founded upon and the crimes committed by this administration that have resulted in the Executive Branch no longer having any check on its power are the ones who now have the onus of rescuing this nation’s beaten and battered corpse from the rubble and reviving it.
In fact, I submit to you that this is how it always has been. Our leaders aren't why this nation has continued on. The people of America who rose to the occasion when it was time to stand up to the madness have kept this nation alive.
We can keep this nation from dying once again, but we will need to act out and show "tough love" or disregard many of our allies who cannot bring themselves to push for impeachment.
MoveOn.org, a leading organization in this election, does not support impeachment and has endorsed Obama. They will consume many of the good American activists that are needed to propel the impeachment movement. But we can fight back and demand MoveOn be more than just a trough for George Soros to pour his money into.
Leading liberal blog Daily Kos is heavily polarized over impeachment. A diary titled, “Obama And Impeachment” suggests that it would be wrong because it would result in “two consecutive administrations of impeachment discussions”, a “super-majority is required for removal of office”, and the proceedings “can be stretched out certainly for the bulk of 2008.” These reasons are pitiful and disappointing when considering the fact that they come from a blog that is instrumental in organizing the netroots in this nation, but let’s not forget that Markos Moulitsa, the founder, thinks Kucinich represents the “cranky left of the party.”
But we’ve got Veterans for Peace on our side. We’ve got CODE Pink. And we can certainly work with IVAW to mobilize for impeachment.
Let us not forget AfterDowningStreet.org, Democrats.com, and ImpeachBush.org.
Let us use everything the corporate media gives us.
Jack Cafferty recently asked his viewers to answer the question, “Why won’t Congress consider impeachment?”
In response to his question, Cafferty had this to say:
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi long ago made it known that impeachment is 'off the table.' This is a joke…We have a president who has abused the power of his office over and over and over again. It’s what got the Democrats elected to the majority in Congress in 2006. Now it’s election time again, and every member of the House is up for re-election in November. The Democrats no doubt worried what it will look like to many voters if they spend time on impeachment: 'To hell with what's right or wrong, what will it look like?'"
